Dear Mr. Slaughter

Thank you for your request for information received on 18 October 2012. I apologise
for the delay in responding to you.

Your request

Can you please provide the following information regarding Council lettings under
the Freedom of Information Act?

How many new tenancies did the Council create for households with incomes before
tax in the following brackets:

£10,000 to £20,000 per annum
£20,000 to £30,000 per annum
£30,000 to £40,000 per annum

Also, how many new tenancies were created for households with incomes before tax
over £40,000 per annum? What percentage of the total number of new lets does this
represent?.

You have since clarified your request by stating:

I am referring to both permanent and temporary tenancies and would like the
information for the period 2004 to date.

Our response

This request is being handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I am writing to inform you that we have searched our records and some of the
information you requested is not held by Hammersmith and Fulham. The Council’s
current system commenced December 2006. The data provided refers to 2007
onwards, based on a full calendar year. The data is based on applicants
permanently housed into all forms of social rented accommodation as well as new
temporary accommodation placements. Data before 2007 is not held.

How many new tenancies did the Council create for households with incomes before
tax in the following brackets:

£10,000 to £20,000 per annum
£20,000 to £30,000 per annum
£30,000 to £40,000 per annum

The Council does not hold this information, as it is not routinely collected.
However, in some cases it is collected and we are able to provide you with the
information that we do hold. Since 1 January 2007, there have been 7854 new
tenancies created. The Council holds information regarding the income of the
tenants for 988 of those. Of the tenancies we do hold this information for:

Up to £19,999 per annum – 803
£20,000 to £29,999 per annum – 147
£30,000 to £39,999 per annum – 29

I note that the income brackets used differ from those you have provided. This
is the format the information is recorded in, and in order to put them into the
brackets you have provided we would need to do so manually for all 988
cases, which would likely exceed the appropriate limit under s12 of the Act.

Also, how many new tenancies were created for households with incomes before tax
over £40,000 per annum? What percentage of the total number of new lets does this
represent?.

9. This is less than 1% of the tenancies we hold data on.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of this response, please contact the h&f
InTouch team, who will decide whether to refer the matter to the Council's
Information Manager for an internal review.
