23, 2012 FROM: Brett, Holly & the boys RE: Catching you up on the latest at Urban Impact and with the Lawrences
First, allow us to apologize for being so tardy in getting this support letter to you. It’s been two months since our last letter, and it’s been a whirlwind since then. Life is beginning to “settle down,” and our schedules are lightening up a bit, giving us the time to sit down and catch you up on what’s happening. It’s been an incredibly busy—and exciting—fall for us. We kicked off the flag-football season on Sunday, Sept. 9, with more than 75 kids registered for the community’s only youth-sports opportunity. We’re enjoying the support of several neighborhood volunteers, who are helping coach our eight co-ed teams. Just a week later, we marked the start of Student Impact, our after-school program for neighborhood middle-schoolers. It’s been an incredible first month for us, working with 13 of the neighborhood’s 6th- to 8th-graders. More than 10 volunteers are making an impact three days a week from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., helping with homework, math and reading tutoring and providing support and advocacy both at home and at our students’ middle schools. Of course, many of you have asked about our long-awaited move, and we’re delighted to report that we’re writing this letter from the kitchen table in our new home in Weinland Park. One of the biggest challenges of the past two months was our on-again, off-again move. We were first slated to move-in on Aug. 31, but delays with some of the remodeling bumped the date back two weeks to the week of Sept. 17. Bank delays pushed the week of Sept. 17 to the week of Sept. 30, and we expected to call 1488 N. 5th St. our home by the first weekend of October. Alas, the city’s inspection of the remodeling work was delayed, which meant we were delayed yet again. Finally, a week ago today, on Tuesday the 16th, we moved in. Yes! It was a long wait, but we’re so excited to finally be here. Our friends in the neighborhood are really excited that we’re here, too, and we’ve already had LOTS of visitors, both adults and kids alike. We’re planning to send a full-blown newsletter in a few weeks, complete with pictures from High Impact Football, Student Impact and our move. We have so many stories to share! In the meantime, could we ask you for two favors? 1. Would you pray for us and for our Weinland Park friends and neighbors? We are consistently humbled and driven to our knees by two things in the work we do: a. The unrelenting needs faced by our friends and neighbors, b. God’s faithfulness to provide when we ask. 2. Would you give? Perhaps you’ve given a one-time gift this year and could give again? Or perhaps you’re giving monthly and could provide a one-time or permanent increase? With the end of the calendar year rapidly approaching, perhaps you’d consider a larger year-end gift as a charitable contribution and write-off for 2012? Whether you pray, give or both, please know how much we appreciate you and your support. We regularly pray for you—that the Lord will bless your families financially, relationally, physically and spiritually—and will continue to do so. Thank you so much for partnering with us,
Change begins with U and I.
