Coordinated AEPs participation in the 2012 International EcoSummit Conference, organizing a session on sustainability with speakers from USEPA, Ontario Power Generation, Stanford University, the European Institute for Energy and Resources for the Future. Obtained Underground Injection Control (UIC) and Well Work Permits for combined carbon capture and storage project at the AEP Mountaineer Plant in New Haven, WV, the first such project in the world. Managed AEP response to EPA Steam Electric Effluent Guidelines ICR (information collection request) for 24 power plants, which included almost 24,000 pages of documents, diagrams and engineering reports. Secured $767,000 in AEP R&D funding to conduct research on ecosystem services, water quality trading and Ohio River ecological studies; innovative, multi-facility, fish population study was conducted at a cost savings of over $6 million. Developed and implemented a program at five Midwest power plant ash ponds to assess the use of limnological principals for managing water quality at a significant savings over conventional treatment technologies.
