Notes about Buckling Stresses

1. Buckling stresses in tables on this page are derived from
CUFSM software and are suitable for use in the Direct
Strength Method (AS4600 Ch 7)
2. Results are only for the stress distribution case as shown
Combining stress cases as per AS4600.
3. Users should derive the section strengths for each case
by first determining the flexural torsional strength of the full
section and apply direct strength formulae to account for
the local and distortional buckling limits.

SAFE ROOF PURLIN SPANS

PURLIN ACCESSORIES

ROLLED DIMENSIONS

The safe spans below are suitable for sheds and class 1 structures with the following assumptions:
Non-cyclonic sites only
Cpe = -0.9 and Cpi = +0.2
High Pressure Zones KL = 1.5 and 2.0 included
Max roof span allowed - 12m
All Spans to have 1 row of bridging.
15% Lap must be fitted to all mid supports
Cleated or bracketed fixing Only - No Flange Bolting.
Results are for at least two spans.
Full calculation of requirements using Steeline section properties should be carried out for full verification.
