DETAILED PROJECT REPORT (DPR) FOR INTRODUCTION OF ADDITIONAL COURSES(S) AND/ OR INCREASE / VARIATION IN INTAKE AND / OR ADMISSION OF FOREIGN

NATIONALS/ PIO FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012 -13 Present DPR is for Introduction of additional P.G. Course in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering M.E. degree) chapter I : PREAMBLE (This chapter is expected to cover the genesis of the proposal with respect to the background of the technical education and industry scenario of the State where the institution is located and the credentials of the Consultants, if any, engaged by the promoters for preparation of the DPR) 1.1Introduction Introduction of additional P.G. Course in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering – M.E., Embedded system for the year 2012 -13. Anand Institute of Higher Technology was established in the year 2000 by the indefatigable conscious efforts of the Chairman “Kalvivallal” Thiru. T. Kalasalingam, B.Com. He is a true Gandhian, an ideal educationalist and philanthropist. He has been devoting his full time for the upliftment of backward classes in particular by promoting higher education institutions. He was nominated by the Government of India as a member for the Southern Regional Committee of All India Council for Technical Education and as a member of the National body of working group on Technical Education and Management Education for the Tenth Five year plan. It is his ambition in life to build a center of excellence in technology in the rural areas and to provide ample opportunities to the rural youth. The Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities started in the year 1983, and the following institutions were started, located at Srivilliputtur, Virudhunagar District, and Tamilnadu. ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM POLYTECHNIC was established in the year 1983. ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING an ISO 9002 certified institution and Accredited by NBA Boards, New Delhi was established in the very next year 1984. This institution has now been awarded University Status by the UGC and renamed as Kalasalingam University (KLU) ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE 1997 ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE was started in 1987. ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM COLLEGE OF PHARMACY came into existence in 1988. ARULMIGU KALASALINGAM TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE ANAND INSTITUTE OF HIGHER TECHNOLOGY started in a rural area near Chennai city is one of the seven professional institutions run by “Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities” with the background success of running profession institutions for more than 25 years. KALASALINGAM INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The present proposal envisages Introduction of additional P.G. course in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering - M.E. Embedded System for the year 2012– 13. Government of Tamilnadu is developing this area as a IT Corridor providing with 100 ft. road starting from the heart of the city. A number of leading software companies have been established along the IT Corridor. Some more companies and a state sponsored industrial Estate have started functioning. Anand Institute of Higher Technology is started in its permanent building in the year 2000 to cater the need of the Rural Area of Kancheepuram District. This Institution located in the midst of the Global IT Companies called Information Technology Corridor. There are more job opportunities for the students specializing in Electronics and Communication Engineering. The best known secret in the chip design industry is that semiconductors are poised to impact human life far more as they open up new possibilities in emerging industries like nanotechnology, portable and personal communication application, bio medical, security and smart cards and older workhorses like the automotive industry. The State of Tamil Nadu is one of the foremost states in India, having good expectations in the areas of Chip designing. Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is fastly becoming a global Semiconductor chip designing hub. A number of opportunities are available inchip design. Though there are plenty of end jobs available, the industries should enable to keep the right kind of people, without shortfall in quality of manpower. To maintain quality of Manpower, PG Degree Holders in VLSI Design should be made available. Post graduate programme Embedded System are available only in selected colleges which have sufficient and good infrastructure. The Anand Institute of Higher Technology is one of such institution, providing good infrastructure and faculty members. Additional Course (s) proposed to be introduced during Academic year 2012 -13 S.No. PG Name of Courses M.E. – Embedded Systems Proposed Annual Intake 18

1.2 Background of the Consultants

No Consultant is engaged. 1.3 Technical Education & Industry Scenario It is well know that the country is passing through an economic boom. Since, the economy is poised to became global, technical education has to turn global. It‟s no new story that he Indian IT sector has been on a high growth path, even while the rest of the world was reeling under recessionary pressures, thanks to the pool of skilled manpower available in India. However, one IT sector that have been growing rapidly, yet quietly, are Semi-conductor designing. Again, thanks to the technical skills of Indian engineers, which need further refinements through proper course structures and exposure to the international practices. Chip designing India, “Semi-conductor chips, which are at the heart of the IT revolution, have found applications in almost everything. They are used in computers, mobile phone handsets, consumer electronic goods, industrial automation, automobiles, etc. This kind of diversity in their applications has resulted in a positive e boost for their demand as well. Many industry analysts believe that this will become the fastest growing segment in the years to come.” It is no wonder, therefore, that many global corporations have set up design centers here in India. Global semi-conductor majors Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics being amongst the first. They set the trend for more and more semi-conductor companies and OEM organizations, which began to outsource the development of complex technologies such as systemon-chip to Indian start-ups and established companies with design expertise. Today, India houses more than 100 chip design firms that are “undertaking cutting edge design work.” This number, incidentally, has only been rising and includes some big names such as Motorola, IBM, CISCO, Lucent and Sun, among others, besides some Indian names like Accel, C-DAC, Ittiam Systems, Wipro Infotech, Tata ELEXSI and Tejas Networks. According to a research based on primary and secondary data collected by NASSCOM to ascertain manpower skill requirements in the Indian software sector, the demand for EDA/ASIC/VLSI skills are growing rapidly.
