This week, we are reading The Extra Good Sunday from Ramona Quimby, Age 8.
Target Skill: Understanding Characters. Characters are the people and animals in a story. The characters' thoughts, actions, and words are clues about their feelings and traits, or what they're like. Using an inference map helps readers track character's traits. Target Strategy: Infer/Predict: To infer means to figure out something that is not stated directly. Use your understanding of the characters' traits and your inference map to think more about why the characters think, speak, and act as they do. Also use story details to predict, or figure out, what the characters might do next. Fluency: Expression: Matching Expression to Content When good readers read aloud, they read with expression to make their voices show what the characters say, think, and do. Reading with expression adds interest and enjoyment to reading.
We are continuing our Persuasive Writing unit as we tackle writing book reviews. The children will learn how to summarize a book they have read, reveal their favorite part, and determine a point the author was trying to make. These students are never afraid to say what they think, so we are looking forward to hearing what they have to say about books they have read.
Math: Multiplication
We will focus on the 8s and 12s facts this week. Please study at home every night. The cumulative multiplication test is scheduled for next Wednesday.
