The Pictorialist

February 2013 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Loved Ones Program February 7 We had a loved ones program last year and everyone enjoyed finding out more about other club members. So, we are going to do it again. Each of us is asked to bring in 8 pictures of loved ones, be they family, friends, or pets. Bring them on a memory stick or CD, or e-mail them to Sandra Weber, at At the meeting Sandra will explain how to use our groups membership to Flickr, which she has set up, to share and critique photos. Report on Our January Meeting We had a chance to see how our own photography compares to that of others in PSA Chapter 21, when we judged photos entered in this years chapter competition. Attendance was up and we welcomed several guests and a couple of new members. A new membership list will be sent out with the Pictorialist. Outings Thanks to Jerry Harders, we were allowed inside the Tripoli Masonic Temple January 9. On one of our future programs we will see some of the photographs taken inside and outside of the building. The two camels outside the front of the temple posed nicely for us, and the interior of the building with its colorful dcor of tiled walls and floor, artwork, the grand staircase, and especially the dome as seen from below made for unusual and interesting photographic subjects. Unless someone comes up with another outing suggestion, our next outing will be on a free day at the Zoo, in the month of March. Exhibitions Starting this month, there are several exhibitions of photographs in the local area. First on the list is the display by John and Dixie Lowin in the LM Welcome Center. It starts Jan. 21 and runs for one month. Next to mention is the joint exhibition in the Elaine Erickson Gallery in the Marshall Building of prints by Dr Yong-ran Zhu and George Sanquist. It opened with a reception and artists talk January 19. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Friday from 11: AM to 5: PM, and Saturday 10:30 to 5: PM. The phone number of the gallery is 414-221-0613. Marquette Universitys Haggerty Museum, at 13th and Clybourn, has two photo exhibits from Jan 16 to May 9. One is called Dark Blue The Water is Protagonist with photos by several photographers, all featuring water and what it symbolizes. The

other exhibit is by Kevin J. Miyazaki, with pictures of fresh water, the Great Lakes, and portraits of persons who make a living on the water. At the Marian Gallery in Mount Mary University there is an exhibition Always Lost: a Meditation on War. It features a wall of portraits of service members who have lost their lives in the Middle East since Sept. 11, 2001, and combat photos by David Leeson and Cheryl Diaz Meyer. Starting February 22 the Milwaukee Art Museum will have a major photography show titled Color Rush. It will run through May 19, 2013. It will consist of one hundred forty color photographs made between 1907, when the Lumiere Brothers began marketing the Autochrome, and 1981.
