Career Trek - The Pas, Manitoba 2013 - Present Career Trek is a career based learning experience in which grade 5 and 6 students are invited to participate. During this program, I was responsible for being a group leader. This meant, I am responsible for guiding children around to the different sessions throughout the university, problem solving, conflict resolution between participants, and ensuring all participants have a lunch. During this experience I am also responsible for assisting the instructors with their lessons if they need help, want me to help demonstrate something or even need me to get something from another location. Student Practicum - Scott Bateman Middle School - The Pas, Manitoba 2012 During this student teaching practicum, I had the opportunity to teach a grade 6 class. This student teaching position lasted 6 weeks and gave me an opportunity to gain experience while working directly under the supervision of a qualified teacher. University assessments were conducted by my professors during my lessons in which I received wonderful feedback. Student Practicum - Joe A. Ross Elementary School - Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba 2012 During this student teaching practicum, I had the opportunity to teach a grade 3 class for 6 weeks. This student teaching position gave me an opportunity to gain experience while working directly under the supervision of a qualified teacher. University assessments were conducted by my professors during my lessons in which I received extremely positive feedback. This placement allowed me to learn about the Aboriginal culture first hand and come up with culturally appropriate lessons.

This student teaching position gave me an opportunity to gain experience while working directly under the supervision of a qualified teacher. University assessments were conducted by my professors during my lessons, in which I once again received wonderful feedback.
Into the Wild - Summer Camp - Team Leader - The Pas, Manitoba Summer 2009 - 2012 Into the Wild is a summer program dedicated to youth of The Pas and surrounding areas with a focus on math and science. - Seasonal employment during summer months - 2 weeks of planning, 6 weeks of programming - Collaborated and created the SAGE (Securing Aboriginal Goals in Education) program with 5 fellow Bachelor of Education Students - Logo creation, pamphlet design, multiple advertising strategies (i.e - radio interviews, newspaper interviews), scheduling of sessions, handling of registrations and funds, created alter-
nate plans for weather conditions, children supervision, booked several excursions for the children (i.e - bee farm, canola fields, tours of museum and other educationally rich places), differentiated lessons depending on age group attending during the week, child safety, Aboriginal and culturally rich and sensitive materials, games, and land based activities. - Trained new employees/team leaders during the 2nd - 4th year of Into the Wild - Trained Junior leaders (students from Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute High School) - Contacted guest speakers such as local artists and elders to share skills, talents and presentations, share stories. Other local people were invited to Into the Wild to share life experience and new activities such as learning to jig, how to set traps and other cultural experiences - Created fun curriculum integrated lessons Kelsey Kids Camp - Kelsey School Division - Counsellor - The Pas, Manitoba Summer 2009 - 2012 Kelsey Kids Camp was a program designed and implemented as a fun place for children who struggled with math and language arts to go to before the school year started. This was used as a means of getting them excited about going back to school. It was a method used by Kelsey Community School to teach children without them realizing they are learning by providing a fun camp atmosphere. - Seasonal employment - Created lessons and games for students based around the math and ELA curriculum - Responsible for student supervision, lessons, games, child safety, educational guidance, maintained school routines and structure, scheduling, providing and preparing snacks, The Alouette Hotel - Bartender/Waitress/DJ - The Pas, Manitoba 2010 - Present This position allowed me to focus on my education during the day, and work nights and weekends in order to earn a living while supporting my family. I learned a lot about how to deal with stressful situations, un-cooperative people among many other life skills that would have been difficult to learn in other settings. - Bartender/waitress/DJ - Skills Attained - Quick service and customer satisfaction, familiar with sound equipment and multiple forms of technology as well as performing system updates to the sound and music video systems, handling cash, familiar with cash registers, VLTs/Slot machines, and ATMs, responsible for several clean up and stocking duties, as well as opening and closing duties. Recreation & Reading Aboriginal Youth Mentorship Program - Youth Mentor - The Pas, MB Summer 2010 The Recreation and Read program was started in The Pas as a way for students of Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute High School to gain mentoring skills, leadership, and responsibility. - My position during the Recreation and Read program was to guide teens in their journey to becoming respected mentors for the children who attended the program, help plan and implement activities that students would be responsible for both teaching and playing games with the kids, provide and prepare snacks for children participants. Hollywood Convenience - Owner - The Pas, Manitoba 2004 - 2010 Hollywood Convenience was a store I purchased with a business partner. This business was owned and run in The Pas, Manitoba for 6 years. This opportunity taught me how to create and follow through on a business plan. I also learned several management skills, along with ordering, receiving, and stocking inventory. It allowed me to delegate responsibilities to employees, learn about managing business finances, do payroll, and learn new organizational systems as well as how to program POS systems and do inventory control. This experience is invaluable to the person I have become.
Kelsey Recreation Centre - Kids Camp - Counsellor/Respite Worker - The Pas, MB Summer 2003 - 2004 KRC summer camp was the first summer camp experience I had. I knew that I loved working with children, but this job presented new challenges that I now value as an educator. During this position in the summer months, I was responsible for a child with special needs. I learned to be patient, calm, understanding and empathetic both when it came to this child, as well as with the other children participating in the camp. I learned to be fast, and think on my feet, creative and try new ideas as a means of keeping this child entertained and happy, problem solve when things didn’t go according to plan and most of all I learned to respect each individual child for their self, the way they are, and for what they each taught me.
