COMPUTER is an electronic machine that can accept and arrange data to get meaningful information. Comes from the word compute which means to calculate or to count

DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPUTER Supercomputer high capacity computer that cost millions of dollars and can occupy a specially air-conditioned room. This are mainly used for worldwide weather forecasting, oil exploration, and spacecraft design.

Mainframe Computer less powerful than supercomputer but also occupy a specially air-conditioned room. Widely used by large organization such as banks, airlines, universities to hold millions of transaction. Personal Computer this are portable computers also known as desktop computer because it could fit into the size of a desk and it could run easy to use programs such as word processing and spreadsheet. Laptop this are small in size compared to a desktop computers. It is very mobile, you could bring it anywhere. It also runs easy to use programs like desktop computer. It is also called PC Notebook. Palmtop also called PDA's or Personal Digital Assistants. It could fit into the size of our palm.

BASIC PARTS OF COMPUTER MONITOR display screen of the computer SYSTEM UNIT - it houses the CPU and it is where processing takes place KEYBOARD it includes the standard typewriter keys plus specialized keys MOUSE a pointing device that directs the pointer on the screen

OTHER PARTS OF THE COMPUTER PRINTER it prints text or images created by the computer SCANNER translates text or images into digital form SPEAKER - gives the sound just like that of a radio or television

Lesson II INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

We use different computer devices everyday. Some devices are used to input information, while others are to output information from our computer. Lets look at some devices and learn wheter they are input or output devices. Computer nput is the information that goes into a computer to be processed. It can come from a single devce, such as a keyboard or mouse. Input can also come from less traditional devices such as scanners and joystciks. Computer output is the opposite of input; it is what comes out of the computer after information s processed. It can be through common devices such as monitor, speaker, or printer.

Lesson III THE KEYBOARD Keyboard is an input device. We can type letters, numbers and symbols using the keyboard. It looks like a typewriter but it has more keys. It is made up of 101 0r 104 keys that can perform special work. Four Main Parts of Keyboard 1. Alphanumeric Keypad 2. Numeric Keypad 3. Cursor Keys 4. Function Keys Four Main Parts of Keyboard 1. Alphanumeric Keypad this part has letter a up to Z, numberes from 0 to 9 and symbols. You can also find some special keys like Enter key, shft key, Caps Lock Key, CTRL and ALT, spacebar, and Window key. 2. Numeric keypad this part is seen at the right side of the keyboard. It looks like a calculator. It contains number keys and mathematical symbols. 3. Cursor keys this part has the arrows pointing up, down, left and right. It also has the keys labeled Page Up, Page Down, Home, End, Insert and Delete. Use these keys to control the movement of the cursor. 4. Function Keys this part is found at the upper part of the keyboard. These keys can do special work on different programs. These keys are ESC, F1 TO F12, Printscreen, Scroll Lock, Pause or Break. Enter Key ths tells the computer to do the given commads. Backspace key arases the letteron the left side of the cursor. Delete key erases the letter on the right side of the cursor. Window key activates the start menu button on the desktop.

Lesson IV THE MOUSE

Parts of the Mouse

Mouse Buttons Long Wire attached to the system unti. This is where the signals flow to send commands from the mouse to the system unit. Trackball the ball inside the mouse. It allows the mouse pointer to move around the monitor. Palm rest where the palm is placed.

Function of the Mouse

Pointing moving the mouse over an object. Clicking pressing the left mouse button once while the mouse pointer is over an object. Double clicking pressing the left mouse button twice and fast. Dragging - pressing the left mouse button without releasing it and moving an object from one place to another on the screen. Right Clicking pressing the right mouse button while the pointer is over an object.

PROCESSING DEVICE
The system Unit has two parts: External parts these parts are found outside the system Unit. Internal parts these parts are found inside the system Unit.

External parts of the Unit system CD Drive Disk Drive Power switch Reset Switch LED (Light Emitting Doide)

Internal Parts of the Unit system 1. Microprocessor: known as the CPU. It is the brain of the system Unit. 2. Cards: acts as the interpreter between the user and the computer. It translates the English language to machine language. 3. Motherboard: where the processors, cards and memory chips are placed. 4. Hard Disk: a giant floppy disk that can store a lot of information. 5. Power Supply: gives the system unit power to process. 6. Fan : keeeps the microprocessor inside the system unit cool. 7. Speaker: produce internal sounds.
