Objective This course is to make the students learn the applications of statistical tools and techniques for decision making. Course inputs UNIT - I Probability Theory: Sample space and Events, definition of probability (Classical, Statistical and Axiomatic) and conditional probability, kinds of events: Single, Compound, Dependent, Independent and Mutually Exclusive; Addition and Multiplication Theorems, Bayes Theorem and exercises based on them, Mathematical Expectation. Probability Distributions: Binomial, Poisson and normal distributions, their characteristics and applications. UNIT - II Sampling theory: superiority of samples over complete enumeration, concept of with and without replacement sampling; Kinds of sampling-Simple Random Sampling, Stratified Sampling and Systematic Sampling, Sampling & Non-sampling errors.
