What is the best part about your job?
The relationships that I have made over the years and the satisfaction of making people happy with their purchases. It may be one bottle of wine or an entire home full of furniture, but when I receive repeat business it makes it all worth the time and work. Everyday is a new adventure and an opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world.

What is the best advice you received?
Do what you love to do. No one can work the hours that we work and do what we do if you are not dedicated to the job and love what you are doing. Also, I never stop learning.

you need to delegate to others. Always have a back up plan and keep a good sense of humor when it comes to juggling many balls in the air. Never settle for less than what you really want to achieve. Give your customers more than they expect and they will always return.

Family: What advice would you give women looking to get ahead?
Plan financially for hard times. Know what it takes to make a profit and never let your buying take over. The hardest part of retail is buying right to sell right—in addition to hiring the right staff to back you up. Husband Steve, daughter Beth, sonin-law Drew, son Mark, daughter-inlaw Jackie, grandchildren: Whitney, Hayden, Bree, Jeslea, Luke and Ella.

What does a typical day entail?
Well, I wear many hats in my business so one day I might be selling, designing, ordering products, handling advertising, setting floors, re-stocking inventory or meeting with sales reps for new products. Some of our jobs involve driving to a location for on-site measuring and design advice. Most of my days are from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and are full of decisions.

What is your day like?
Every day is different, and that’s why I love my job. I spend a lot of time communicating: face-to-face, on the phone, and in lots of meetings. In general, I plan, implement, maintain, and grow various aspects of the business while also reviewing budgets and operations, cultivating palliative medicine and hospice services, and developing new programs, such as CareLink (to bridge the territory between home health care and hospital care) and PACE (to provide seniors a daytime program with health care and social interaction). I also work closely with our CEO, Dave Clarke, on executing our overall strategic plan as we seek to diversify our business and expand its footprint.

His greatest contribution was teaching me that I could trust him without reservation, and gaining that freedom was critical to my professional growth. He modeled all of these life-enhancing concepts and talked often about how to handle particular situations. He actively taught me how to be a better leader and person.

Roseman

What’s left on the bucket list?
Professionally, it’s somewhat general: To continue to grow and learn. I would love to obtain my doctorate someday. Personally, it’s to travel more with my family. I really want to experience the world at a more intimate level and tap into what unites us and distinguishes us as people. At the moment, Spain, Italy, and the Caribbean hold a special appeal, but I wouldn’t say no to any destination.

What motivates/inspires you?
Helping others. That’s what I do best. When I see the response or the thanks from our efforts to improve someone’s life, it’s such a powerful reward. My job lets me observe the difference that we can make with everything from small gestures to major projects, and that’s a constant gift that pushes me to do even more. And of course, my husband and kids motivate me on a daily basis to be a better person. Their love is a strong driving force.

What advice would you give What do you look forward to when you to go work each day? women looking to get ahead?
I look forward to interacting with the staff, patients, families, and our community partners. I watch our staff on a daily basis, and they make me want to do better and be a better person. There’s so much compassion in each of them. They’re what make us so different. The heart and commitment of our employees to patients and their families is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It energizes me every day.

To be honest, to work hard, and to know and really understand the concept and purpose of what you’re doing. That’s a huge thing for me. If you’re passionate and authentic, people will respond favorably. I would also recommend a constant quest for learning and a desire to understand people.

Tell us about a personal goal you achieved.
Finding the right professional calling. At one point, I was struggling to feel engaged with my work, to find a mission and purpose that would motivate me. A life coach suggested I consider what energizes me and then speak to professionals involved in those fields. The exercise ultimately brought me to hospice, and things began to fall into place in completely unexpected ways. I think my willingness to be open to my own passions and interests helped change my life for the better. As I made the change, I found it very rewarding to run toward something that would nurture me and my talents long-term and allow me a life of service and commitment.

What is the best advice you received?
To be transparent and to nurture your integrity. A former boss mentored me, not only talking the talk but walking the walk. He advocated consistency, especially in decision-making, and he believed in teaching your employees what to expect from you according to the standards you set. He also taught me that you can’t always tell people what they want to hear, but you can guarantee them an honest

How do you balance your business and family/social life?
Honestly, that’s the hardest part. This organization puts a strong emphasis on family and balance, but my driven nature can lead to guilty feelings. It’s the most stress that I face. At work, I’m constantly moving, and I try to pack as much as I can into my days. Then, when I’m with my family, I make a conscious effort to relish

On a typical day, I am instructing students in the classroom or in our student clinic. Clinic instruction entails facilitating learning as students practice their hands-on skill performing facials, waxing, makeup applications, body scrubs, wraps and more. When not in the classroom or clinic I am in the front office assisting clients, or working on day-to-day operations to grow the business.
