The data can also be used to restructure the coursework as a combination of two subjects belonging to the same subject area could be causing difficulty for a lot of students. The specific CG throws the result of how many students were actually able to better their performance in these subjects compared to their overall CG in the term.In the first view we have envisaged using the data for the following purposes. Need and Insights offered  Using the data to figure out the critical subjects for each student. This will help identify the common subjects which cause problems to a lot of students and also provide the chance of providing specific help to the students according to their weaknesses.      Data sources The data used is the standard data provided which includes grade and subject information data. The specific CG can be figured out to narrow down the subject areas or collection of subject in which the students might need more help or guidance which can be offered by assigned tutors Also the mapping of the critical subjects to the overall CG can be used to identify the critical subjects for students falling in each CG range. The list below offers the possible uses the data/representation of this view could be used to drive more informed decisions for the student community so that more students can be offered specific and timely help. The view of the first view (all components visible) . The Institute can take action to ensure that the two subjects are not taught in the same term in the future so that the burden on students can be reduced. Specific CG allows the user to calculate the CG for a student based on a combination of courses. A critical subject is one in which a student is scoring below a certain level. This level can be picked by the person viewing the tool The data can be used to figure out the subjects which impact the performance of the students the most. This will be done using the concept of ‘specific CG’.

we see the percentage of students who were able to outperform their overall CG in the term when their grades in the specific subjects which are selected. The specific CG is highlighted green for the students for whom it exceeds their overall CG in the term. In the above figure we see the option to choose the term as well as the option to choose the collection of subjects for which the specific CG will be calculated. In the above figure. are taken into consideration. .We now look at the specific features of the view in some detail.

This information can then be used to help a student in a manner that will suit his strengths. Proper sequencing will help the students to be exposed to a subject when they are ready for it.     Data sources The data used is the standard data provided which includes grade and subject information data. The view of the first view (all components visible) . It can also be gauged as to which kind of subject areas are strong or weak for a student.  This information can be used to identify the subject areas that are causing problems to the students. The information about the subject areas can also be used as a means to encourage intra batch mentoring of students so that students can benefit from each other’s expertise. In the second view we take into account the attendance of the student as well as try to clearly bring out the sectorial strengths and weaknesses of the student. Also it may be that the student may only perform badly in a subject area in one term but may improve in other terms. The list below offers the possible uses the data/representation of this view could be used to drive more informed decisions for the student community so that more students can be offered specific and timely help. This information can be used to identify the true strength and weaknesses of a student in terms of subject areas and proper guidance can thus be provided. It can also be used to decide the sequencing the courses that fall under a particular subject area. Need and Insights offered This view will help the user to get a perspective on how the performance of a student changes in a particular subject area changes over time and in which term does he perform well.

. In this view the term wise CG of each student as well as the strongest and weakest subjects for the student can be seen. In this view we can see the ability to choose for the subject area and CG in the subject area chosen as well as the mean attendance by the student in the subject area. The variation in the attendance %age can also be seen for each student. We now look at the specific features of the view in some detail.

In the third view we take into account how the course structure affects the student performance and how different subjects are more critical than others. The list below offers the possible uses the data/representation of this view could be used to drive more informed decisions for the student community so that more students can be offered specific and timely help. This view also gives the impact of the number of components on the student attendance which will have a bearing on student performance. Need and Insights offered The course structure can affect the student performance. . Above are two views of the third view. This view will tell us the relation between student performance and the number of components of a particular course.

IIMCP Index: The IIMCP (IIM Calcutta Professor) Index has been introduced to compare the performance of students belonging to different sections. The professors with very low index would imply higher difficulty level in teaching. The overall window has following view: Need: In IIM Calcutta. PGP office faces the challenge of uniform marking across the sections and often adopts sectional grading. the only extra information required is name of professor teaching each course in each section. Mean of all the sections for a particular course is calculated through taking arithmetic mean of scores of all students belonging to each section. . As a result. The name of professor is easily accessible from the final sectional mark sheet submitted by professor to PGP office for each course. 𝐼𝐼𝑀𝐶𝑃 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑥 = 𝐴𝑟𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑆𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑋 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑒 𝐴𝑟𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑆𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝐵𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑥 𝑜𝑓 1 Data Sources: Apart from the sample data given to us. IIMCP index is a novel effort to help out the PGP office in normalization of marks across sections. Insights of PGP Chairperson: The IIMCP index would provide the basic idea regarding difficulty level of teaching of different professors. Due to multiple professors. As a recommendation. the strength of student batch is currently 450+ and is expected to continue increasing in near future. The fourth view presents a new concept to help PGP office regarding the normalization of marks across the sections for courses taught by different professors. allotting tutors to sections with lower IIMCP index professors would be good idea and help the students uplift there performance compared to other sections. Lowest mean for each particular course is assigned as a base index of 1. different faculty teaches the course to different sections. Ratio of sectional mean to mean for base index defines the IIMCP index for professor teaching the section.

. c) At the same time a graph is also plotted to show the IIMCP index for professors who taught a chosen course to all the sections. b) Comparison of IIMCP index for all professors teaching a particular course to all sections.06 IIMCP index. the output is table with information related to Term in which course was taught. For example: The above figure shows that in Term I. Section C was taught PP-101 by Prof. C PP-101 with a 1. For example: When a course like OM-301 is chosen from the drop down menu.Components of third view are as follows: a) IIMCP index for professor with chosen details like Term. Section and Course. each professor who taught the course and their respective IIMCP index.
