In the past few years, millions of people have gone online. And some of them probably thought they would never have probably thought they would never have a use for a computer. Today, the Internet connects thousands of networks and hundred of users around the world. It is a huge, cooperative community with no central ownership. This lack of ownership is an important feature of the internet, because it means that no singl person or group controls the network.

What is Internet?
About the internet
The internet is a vast computer network of computer networks. In 1994, 3 million people made us of it. By the end of 2000, according to a study by Computer Industry Almanac Inc., more than 400 million people around the world were using the Internet, including over 130 million in the U.S. It was estimated that by 2005, 1 billion people could be connected.
The internet is composed of people, hardware, and software. With the proper equipment on both ends, you can sit at your computer and communicate with someone anyplace in the world. You can also use the Internet to access vast amount of information, including text, graphics, sound, and videos. From your computer you can send e-mail, listen to the music, “chat” with people on another continent, do banking buy stocks, books, flowers, cars, work with others on an electronic whiteboard, and, with the appropriate equipment, videoconference.

The Difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web
The Internet is a massive network of networks. It connects a lot of people in the world. While the World Wide Web, is a way of accessing information on the internet.
How the Internet works
The Internet involves 3 basic elements: server, client, and network. A server is a computer program that makes data available to other programs on the same or other computers. It “serves them. A client is a computer that request data from a server. A network is an interconnected system in which multiple computers can communicate, via copper wire, coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, satellite transmission, etc. When you use a browser to go to a site on the World Wide Web, you access the site’s files. To locate sites of interest you may want to use an online finding service called a search engines, such as Google.

History of the Internet
Who invented the Internet?
There is no one person responsible for inventing the Internet. It started as a team effort and continues as a team effort to this day. Here are some of answers I got: The Internet was originally developed by DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, as a means to share information on defense research between involved universities and defense research facilities. Originally it was just email and FTP sites as well as the Usenet where scientists could question and answer each other. It was originally called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency NETwork). The concept was developed starting in 1964, and the first messages passed were between UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute in 1969. Leonard Kleinrock of MIT had published the first paper on
packet switching theory in 1961. Since networking computers was new to begin with, standards were being developed on the fly. Once the concept was proven, the organizations involved started to lay out some ground rules for standardization. Al Gore really did have a substantial part in the US legal framework and governmental issues related to the internet He never said he invented it.

There wasn't just ONE person that invented the internet. The internet is just a way to view files and information that someone puts onto a server. The internet is just a way to access the information. Although there's a guy named Leonard Kleinrock who was the first person to write a paper on the idea of packet switching which is essential for internet to work. He wrote this idea in 1961. And here are a couple more people that were essential to what we call internet today without these guys there wouldn't be The Internet. Larry G. Roberts created the first functioning longdistance computer networks in 1965 and designed the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), the seed from which the modern Internet grew, in 1966. Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) which moves data on the
modern Internet, in 1972 and 1973. If any two people "invented the Internet," it was Kahn and Cerf - but they have publicily stated that "no one person or group of people" invented the Internet.
When was the Internet invented?
The internet was created by ARPANET in 1969. It is a group of researchers working for the Department of Defense. Many people think that the Internet is a recent innovation, when in fact the fundamental ideas behind the Internet have been around for over a quarter century.
“The World Almanac and the book of facts 2002”. World Almanac Inc. P628-629. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_was_the_Internet_invented
The ARPANET was the first wide area packet switching network, the "Eve" network of what has evolved into the Internet we know and love today. The ARPANET was developed by the IPTO under the sponsorship of DARPA, and conceived and planned by Lick Licklider, Lawrence Roberts, and others as described earlier in this section.
Bad things about the Internet
There are many good things you can do on the internet. But there are some people uses the internet in a wrong way. These are some of the bad things: hacker is a term for a computer criminal, often with a specific specialty in computer intrusion. Even kids can do this thing without knowing that what they are doing is a crime.
A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without permission or knowledge of the user. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of Malware, adware and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability.
The Internet Addiction Disorder
Internet addiction disorder refers to the problematic use of the Internet, including the various aspects of its technology, such as electronic mail (e-mail) and the World Wide Web.
The Internet is very helpful to our community. The Internet makes our studies easier. The great thing about the Internet is the communicating ability.
When you go online, you can communicate with everyone who’s online too. You can even make a business using internet. It is a big help to the people who runs their companies. Then can advertise their products by making their own website. But the others abuse this kind of technology. They’re enjoying the internet in bad ways. Like porn sites, threatening people via e-mail, sending email containing viruses, Hacking websites and lots of others.
