1.0

PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to provide the guidelines to the Testing Engineer to verify the required voltage ratio, to check the deviation of the voltage ratio from the specified value and also to verify vector group for the parallel operation of two or more transformers in parallel. For the ratio, the tolerances are strictly limited to 0.5% due to excessive losses in parallel operating transformers, 0.1% of the actual percentage impedance on the principal tapping.

2.0

SCOPE This instruction applies to the in-house & final testing of the HV Transformer.

3.0

RECORDS Following items are recorded in the test reports: 1. 2. 3. 4. Calculated ratio at all taps, at all phases and between all windings (where applicable). Ratio measured at all taps, at all phases and between all windings (where applicable). Vector group detected. Percentage deviation of the measured ratio from the calculated.

4.0

ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS The standard applicable for this test is IEC 60076-1.

5.0

DEFINITIONS Voltage ratio: It is ratio of the voltages at no-load.

6.0

RESPONSIBILITY Test will be performed under the supervision of Testing Engineer/Sub Engineer of I & QC section of the HV Transformer department.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

1. Connecting leads should be tightly clamped. 2. Meter leads should not be disconnected while voltages are present. 3. For single phase or three phase ratio measurement, the ratio meter leads should be
connected properly as per instructions in the operating manual of the ratio meter. All the other settings of the ratio meter with regard to the vector group detection should be done according to the operation manual of the ratio meter. 10.0 INSTRUCTIONS The general procedure is to apply a low AC voltage to a winding (preferably HV winding) and measure the resulting voltage across the other. Their ratio gives the voltage ratio of the winding set selected. Measurement by using Ratio Meter Leads marked with uppercase letters are connected to HV side, while those marked with lowercase are connected to the LV side of the transformer. Voltage to be applied and vector group to be detected are set to auto. The instrument makes the measurement automatically and the screen displays the measured ratio of the three phases and vector group. The tap should not be changed once the measurement has been commenced. Please refer to the instruction manual of the ratio meter for the appropriate connection scheme during the ratio test. Measurement by using two voltmeter method Connect the 220 Volts or 415 Volts supply to the HV terminals of the transformer and connect one of the voltmeters in parallel to those terminals. Connect second voltmeter to the LV side. The voltage ratio is then calculated from the theoretical formula: Theoretical turn ratio = Voltage of the HV winding Voltage of the LV winding 11.0 CACLULATIONS Error Calculation Error Measurement by Ratio meter

Results Direct Measurement of the ratio. Error Compensation Corrected Ratio = Measured Ratio / Error Error Measurement by Voltmeter Method Both voltmeters should be connected to the same voltage source (220 or 415 Volts) and the value of their ratio will give the ERROR value for the correction. 12.0 TOLERANCES Voltage ratio at no load on principal tapping for a specified first pair of windings. Voltage ratio on other Tappings, same pair Voltage ratio for further pairs The lower of the following values: a) 0.5 % of the declared ratio b) 1/10 of the actual percentage impedance on the principal tapping To be agreed, but not less than the lesser of the values in a) & b) above To be agreed, but not less than the lesser of the values in a) & b) above
