January was highlighted by two luncheons, one on the State of the County with Chairman Dan Cronin and the other State of the Village with Mayor Broda. Both were excellent presentations. We are very happy to have Mayor Broda as an ex-officio member of our chamber board. He is a valuable resource and is very supportive of the chamber and business. A special thanks goes out to our new member Minelab. We welcome them to the chamber and enjoyed learning more about their sophisticated metal detectors. Thanks to Kim Hughes and H&R Block for a fun Business After Hours. Be sure to check out their tax preparation specials. February marks a month of major activity for the Lisle Chamber. We have three different luncheon opportunities with the first on Thursday February 7th sponsored by the Business Ledger. We are marketing partners for this event which includes a discount on the fee for Lisle Chamber members. The topic is money and banking which is always a significant theme. On February 8th we have the very popular Dinner Dance at the Lisle Hilton, Dancing with the Chamber Stars. This event has been drawing more guests each year and is a very enjoyable interlude for the winter weather. Thanks in advance for our major sponsor Navistar and all the terrific silent auction items donated by you the members. On February 21st the Lisle Chamber and Benedictine University present Lislepalooza. This all day event features a career fair, luncheon, and business after hours. There are still openings for the career fair if you would like to promote opportunities at your company. On February 26th we have the annual Economic Forecast luncheon with 10 other chambers at the Marriott Chicago Southwest in Burr Ridge. William Strauss from the Federal Reserve will be our speaker. He always gives us great insight into the economy for the year ahead. Our Business After Hours will be hosted by Jason Fair at Merrill Lynch. We urge you to visit that evening for some great networking. Please also join us for the ribbon-cutting at the new Kumon of Lisle location on February 28th. Ground Hog Day is Saturday Feb. 2nd. Dont forget your valentine on Thursday February 14th.

The mission of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce is to facilitate business relationships and opportunities, to advocate on behalf of our members to governmental bodies and the general public, to promote the best interests of our membership in a fiscally sound and professional manner, and to promote ethical business practices and contribute to the betterment of the community.

February 2013
Page 3 Mayor Broda, State of Village Address at Chamber Luncheon By Nadine Filipiak Mayor Joseph Broda was optimistic about Lisle prospects for 2013 in his annual State of the Village address to about 100 Lisle Chamber of Commerce members and guests on January 17, at the Hilton-Lisle/Naperville. Brodas address, titled Rising to Meet the Challenge focused on positive aspects beginning with the fact that 39 new businesses opened in Lisle last year. Business is the backbone of the community, he said, adding that fostering a good business climate is important because that is what helps make a good community. Of the new businesses, 11 are in communication/ technology, nine in the service industry and seven in healthcare. The Mayor talked about the DuPage Medical Group's new 100,000-square-foot building on Warrenville Road and its affiliation with Rush University Medical Center and how it will attract about 350 people to Lisle every day and provides hundreds of jobs. The Center also leases 55,000 square feet of office space on Ogden Avenue where it employs an additional 260 employees. Broda, Tom Althoff, president and CEO of the Lisle Chamber, and many Chamber members attended the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new medical building earlier in the month. Mayor Broda also talked about Navistar, Inc., the international truck manufacturer, and the $188.5 million invested in improving the former unoccupied Lucent site on Warrenville Road. Navistar is a tremendous asset to the village of Lisle, he said. And Im glad theyre here. They employ more than 3,000 people every day. There are new residential facilities in Lisle, including the Arboretum Landmark, a four-story, 310-unit apartment complex on 8.1 acres facing Warrenville Road. The Mayor said the company expects begin leasing operations in the fourth quarter of 2013. We can probably no longer rely on what state legislators are going to do, the Mayor said. Were just going to have to bear with it and meet the challenge. He added that his fiscal management policy is simple, "If we don't have it, we do not spend it." Broda initiatives for this year include running village government more efficiently with police department streamlining and the use of volunteers, and expanding communications through the village website and the use of social media, and increasing sustainability through a number of programs. Mayor Broda concluded his State of the Village address by awarding his Community Spirit Award to the Lisle Teens with Character organization, a nonprofit program sponsored by the village and Lisle Park District. "We are so very proud of these kids and what they do," Broda said. "These are our future leaders." Teens with Character, Emily Mandel, Christine Young, Mayor Broda, Tom Mandel, Josh Haseltine Tom Althoff, president/CEO of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce, said The mayor always gives a comprehensive review of the activities of the village of Lisle. It adds to the sense of pride we have for our community and the high regard others have for Lisle and his leadership. He is a huge asset to the business community and a great advocate for business.
