They were both raised in
Roseburg and graduated from
RHS is 1973 and returned to
their hometown six years ago
to live their dream.
While training as a chef,
Scott met Chef Simon
Boswell who introduced Scott
to the world of culinary cre-
ativity. Chef Simon became
the influential force behind
Scott and Carla's newly
formed company, Smokehouse
Catering and B-B-Q. A
mobile catering kitchen was
custom built to better provide
catering services on location.
Now, they are able to cater
even the most unique events.

years the team at The Dental
Health Center is pleased to be

What sets the Dental Health
Center apart in the dental com-
munity is their care and dedica-

“I recall a little boy who broke
his tooth where I worked”, relates
Margarete Vincent, a current
patient. “It was after hours and
the boy’s dentist couldn’t see
him. I knew The Dental Health
Center saw patients anytime and
suggested that the boy’s mother
call. A few weeks later I saw the
young man again. His tooth was
fixed and I asked ‘How did it
go?’. He and his mother had
nothing but praise – and a smile.
That’s why my family goes to the
Dental Health Center; they really

The Dental Health Center
began as a practice in 1984. “In
all those years we’ve found that
our patients appreciate the little
things we do to make them feel
comfortable, ” notes Linda Sharp,
office manager and wife of Dr.
Sharp. “Our staff strives to make
every visit pleasant and inviting,
we go the extra mile to make a
difference. From our giant fish
tank that soothes the nerves to the
chair side manner of our staff, we
try to make everything easy.”

needs of the public. Dr. Sharp

to meet our patient’s needs.”
The whole staff is dedicated to
caring about the community.
“Just the other day, a patient
came in”, says Lori B., a member
of the front office staff asked why
she enjoys the Dental Health
Center. “She just wanted to
thank us for the way we treated
her anxiety about seeing the den-
tist. She was also very pleased
with the way the hygienist gave
her injections without pain. It’s
nice to be appreciated in what we
do; I just like the way we help
people”.
The staff at the Dental Health
Center is also involved in com-
munity programs promoting den-
tal care including participation in
free “Dental Day” programs for
those who can’t afford care, free
sealant days, volunteering for the
Northwest Medical Team’s
mobile dental van each quarter,
and visiting schools during Den-
tal Health Month in February.
They also focus on care to
people with disabilities or pho-
bias with patients coming from as
far away as Klamath Falls and
Medford.
“When we heard the news, we
were excited”, admits Linda. “It
means a great deal to us to be
honored from the readers of the
News Review. Thank you.”

Gustavo Anaya came into the
restaurant business in Roseburg in
the worst possible way: taking the
reins of Los Dos Amigos following
the death of his 33-year-old sister
and her husband.
But what started in pain for Gus-
tavo and his family has turned into
tremendous community support.
Gustavo has been operating Los
Dos Amigos for 18 years, watching
the business grow to five locations,
with a total of 80 employees. The

Eye Doctor Saves Lives

I worked for both the
Oregon Eye Bank and also
for OHSU ophthalmology
research lab during med-
ical school, and realized I
wanted to specialize in
eyes when I saw how much
of an impact ophthalmolo-
gists have on quality of
life.
My most memorable case
was a teenager who came
in for a routine eye exam,
but also mentioned that he
was having unexplained
fevers and severe pain and
numbness in his feet and
hands. He had been to
many different doctors
around the state but no
diagnosis had been found.
When I examined his eyes,
I found subtle fine lines on
his corneas that led to my
diagnosis of Fabry’s dis-
ease. Fabry’s disease is a
rare genetic disease that
left untreated can lead to
death from renal failure at
age 20-40. This patient is
receiving gene therapy for
the disease and now leads a
normal life. It’s the great-
est feeling in the world to
open the News Review
over the years and read
about his ski team accom-
plishments, his gradua-
tions, and his wedding.
I am on the board of
directors of Rotary Club of
Roseburg. I am also vol-
unteering as a hostess for
the Miss Douglas County
Pageant. I participate in
the charitable activities of
Reedemer’s Fellowship. I
volunteer my time as an
associate examiner for the
American Board of Oph-
thalmology, and as a mem-
ber of the editorial adviso-
ry board of the magazine
of the American Academy
of Ophthalmology.
I have been committed to
obtaining the highest level
of education and creden-
tialing available. As an
ophthalmologist (an MD
with an additional 3+years
specialty training in eyes),
I provide complete medical
and surgical care for the
eyes. I am board certified,
and have been chosen to be
an associate examiner for
the oral boards of the
American Board of Oph-
thalmology. I have the lat-
est in technology in my
office to aid in diagnosis
and treatment of eye dis-
ease and to ensure com-
plete accuracy of glasses
prescriptions. My staff
prides themselves on their
professionalism, knowl-
edge, and customer serv-
ice, and we get compli-
mented on that all the time.
I provide for 24 hour/day,
7 days a week, 365
days/year coverage for my
patients for emergencies.
