Fisher River Metis Withdrawal from Treaty

The following is a sample of Metis people from Fisher River Band who withdrew from Treaty. There were an even larger number of Metis from Fisher River who were withdrawn from Treaty by way of Enfranchisement Bear, Timothy. Band # 3 (b. 1832) Timothy was the son of Nancy Beardy, father unknown. He married Elizabeth Garrioch in 1851. He initially took Treaty payments at St. Peters Reserve then transferred to Fisher River. Cochrane, Bertha. (b. 1878) Cochrane, Bertha; address: Fisher Bay; claim no. 852; born: 1878 at Oxford House; father: George Hamilton (Mtis); mother: Nancy (Mtis); married: 1893 to William Cochrane (deceased); scrip cert.: form E, no. 3501 Cochrane, William Jr. Band # 60 William was the son of William Cochrane and Margaret Oig. He married Bertha Hamilton on September 1, 1893. William worked in lumbering and fishing. Hamilton, Charles. Hamilton ne Sinclair, Sarah. Band # 95 (b. 1865) Sarah was born in 1865 at Norway House, the daughter of Robert Sinclair and Peggy Oig. She married John Hamilton, a saw mill worker in 1880. she took her Treaty payments at Norway House 1879-80 then at Fisher River. Hamilton ne Sinclair, Bertha. Band # 95 (b. 1865) Bertha Sinclair was born at Norway House, the daughter of Robert Sinclair and Peggy Oig. She took Treaty payments at Norway House 1879-80 then at Fisher River. She married John Hamilton in 1880. Paupanikis dit Williams, Amos. (b. 1852) Amos was born in 1852 at Norway House, the son of Samuel Williams dit Paupanikis and Nancy Ross. He married Elizabeth Cook. Amos worked on the steamboats and at Neilsons Saw Mill. He took Treaty payments at Norway House for six years, then at Fisher River. Paupanikis ne Cochrane, Jane. Band # 196 Jane Cochrane was the wife of Daniel Williams dit Paupanikis Band # 61. They were separated and she lived with her father. Her application to leave treaty was denied on the basis that since she was still married to a Treaty Indian she would still be a Treaty Indian. See correspondence below. Sinclair, Betsy. Band # 134 (b. 1830) Betsy was born in 1830 at York Factory, the daughter of James Omand and Wasausmuswas. She married John Coldfield Sinclair in 1851. She took Treaty payments at Norway House for 16, years, then two years at Fisher River. Sinclair, Clara. Band # 145 (b. 1846) Clara was born in 1846 at Norway House, the daughter of Philip Budd and Jane Duck. From 1875 she took Treaty payments at Norway house then at Fisher River from 1891. she married Peter Halcro in 1868, then married john Ryerson Sinclair in 1881. Sinclair, John Campbell. Sinclair, John Campbell; for his deceased daughter, Jane Mary Sinclair; address: Fisher Bay; born: 12 March, 1875 at Norway House; died: 2 days old at Norway House; father: John Campbell Sinclair (Mtis deponent); mother: Betsy Oman (Mtis); claim no. 853 853 Betsy Oman (Mtis); claim. Sinclair, John Ryerson. Band # 145 (b. 1855) John Sinclair was born in 1855 at Norway House, the son of John Coldfield Sinclair and Betsy Omand. He married Clara Budd at Fisher River in 1881. He took Treaty payments

at Norway house 1870-1891 and then at Fisher River 1892-1893. He worked as a labourer for the HBC.
