Video Surveillance Transmission over Wireless Infrastructure for Public Utilities

Robust, High-Quality Radio Link Connects Remote Facilities and Substations

Typical User Water authorities Electric companies Refineries

Video surveillance has become an integral element in the communications systems of all large-scale installations, such as those run by public utilities, refineries, transportation systems, and manufacturing industries, as well as government offices, military bases, and even the fences, barriers and passport control checkpoints that separate international borders. The rapid evolution to IP-based cameras, which require higher resolution and frame rates, as well as the capacity to support advanced analytics, demands an infrastructure capable of transporting the large amount of high-speed data that is generated. Because it is often impractical and prohibitively expensive to lay fiber optic cable at large installations or along the frontiers separating countries, a viable alternative option is to deploy a cost-effective wireless access solution to backhaul video applications to a control center.

Transmits Highly Focused Video over Long Distances

A wireless access solution for connecting multiple cameras over such a single network, however, has to be expert enough to transmit highly focused video over long distances. Engineered to meet requirements as stringent as these, the Airmux series of wireless multiplexers from RAD Data Communications has become the leading wireless transmission solution for transporting high quality video. Its high bandwidth and low latency enable operations and security personnel stationed at the control center to monitor the situation at remote facilities and substations and take immediate action when required in real time. With a net payload throughput of up to 50 Mbps and a maximum transmission distance of up to 120 kilometers (75 miles), the Airmux is a carrier-class, point-to-point and multi point-to-point transmission system. Its flexible, scalable architecture responds perfectly to security requirements while providing 24X7 remote monitoring of unmanned facilities. The future-proof Airmux features a robust, high-quality radio link that can be used to connect Ethernet between two sites. It saves on operating expenses (OpEx) because it is costoptimized for video surveillance with asymmetric Ethernet bandwidth support. Its high quality, robust radio link is ideal for surmounting high-interference scenarios that often typify large-scale installations.

Video Surveillance Transmission and Telemetry over Wireless Infrastructure for Public Utilities

The Airmux transmits over licensed 2.5 GHz BRS bands or over unlicensed, sub-6GHz bands, an option that enables immediate deployment. In addition, multiple point-to-point architecture allows a dedicated bandwidth to be assigned to each point-to-point link. Transmission is encrypted to ensure security. The Airmux is easy to install and maintain, a must for video surveillance applications in which dozens or even hundreds of units have to be connected simultaneously in order to be effective. It also operates flawlessly even in extreme temperatures of up to -30 degrees Celsius (-22 Fahrenheit).
