Endorsement Letter for Joyce Murray Meet & Greet Feb 22 @ Crestwood Community League While reading the

newspaper a few months ago, I read a short summary of each candidate running for leadership of the Liberal party, and knew that one of these people would be the next Prime Minister. I know this still today, because the current government has done too much harm to both Canadians and the reputation of Canadians internationally for us to reelect a Conservative government. Amongst the names read in the newspaper that day, Justin Trudeau, a familiar but not comforting name to have read. We need a leader that can relate to the struggles, and values of all Canadians, even low and middle class Canadians, and even Western Canadians. Joyce Murray was just a name to me that day, but I read that she was fighting for democratic reform and proportional representation, something I believe Canadians do need, and decided to find out more about this woman. On democratic reform she has captivated both the Green and NDP parties with the idea of running one strong candidate, instead of three from each party, against the conservative candidate. With this one time co-operation plan Canadians will not have a government winning the election with only 39% of the popular vote. Following such a win electoral reform will be implemented with a system of proportional representation, rather than the first-past-the-post system we currently use. Proportional representation means that seats awarded will reflect actual voter preferences not just the majority, invigorating Canadians to participate in politics once again. Ultimately Joyce Murray is fighting for sustainability, collaboratively and pragmatically, unlike any of the other candidates. It is again time to re-evalute carbon taxes, and develop fair provincial guidelines, to rebuild Canada's reputation as a global leader in environment and business. On pipelines Joyce Murray's main concern is that they are an expensive long-term infrastructure that will lock Canadians into a business model with the United States or Asia as they are currently being discussed. Voters Taking Action on Climate Change now endorses this campaign based on ideals of building an environmentally sustainable Canada. Joyce will focus on healthier food by developing a national food policy, increasing market sharing and economic viability for local farms, and requiring a 'GMO content' label on foods. Collaborating with different communities and organizations to generate ideas is central to the person that Joyce Murray is. In her project Bridging the Digital Divide she is achieving close to 98% of communities with high-speed internet access in B.C., and is using lessons learned here as well as ideas from the public to develop her sustainable digital economy policy. Legalizing marijuana and increasing women leadership in government are also among the progressive and sensible policies of this campaign. Before we can begin making these changes we need to help elect Joyce Murray as the official leader of the Liberal Party. This is a special year in which you do not need to join the Liberal party or make a donation in order to participate in the leadership selection. Simply sign yourself up as a supporter, and register to receive your online ballot. This process is extremely quick and simple. You must register yourself by March 3 for online voting April 7. Please join me Friday February 22 at 1900h at Crestwood Community League in welcoming Joyce Murray to Edmonton. This is our chance to discuss the future of Canada with a woman who could soon be our Prime Minister. As well show our support and interest in a candidate striving for sustainability. While attending you will also have the opportunity to register yourself as a Member, or Supporter of the Liberal party, and receive a ballot for the online leadership selection. You can also make donations to Joyce Murray's campaign. Now is the time for myself, and for you all, to become a part of the changes we want to see.
