I believe everyone has a purpose to live, something, an activity that can keep oneself busy. A purposeful life really is much more fulfilling. Different persons have different purposes to live, it can be better health, more success, more enjoyment – whether through sex or commodities with lots of money in one's kitty to spend; lead a long happy contented family. Sometimes purposes for life change through life, as they did for me. While I was a boy indeed I thought the best purpose for my life would be to earn a lot, as I grew up it was to become famous (become a Nobel Prize winner, a best seller writer). I indeed I did write in my dissertation for Ph.D. submitted to IIT Kanpur, some 32 years ago: “....... I am still unmarried, waiting for someone to fall in love with me; want to win the Nobel Prize; write a bestseller” Today, about thirty two years later, I no longer harbor desire to have that purpose for my life. Now I want more wisdom, peace, love, compassion to live a life with these purposes above all. Can that change too, with time, I really do not think so. I believe my present purposes for life are at a higher plane and I have enough balance not to fall lower - as I approach dusk on the path of my life. I would like to conclude by quoting Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov “The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” and “It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much. ... The life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully.” ― Lucius Annaeus Seneca,
