Peer Review
In your groups of two or three, take about 10 minutes to give each person some feedback on his or her Word Play page. As you provide feedback, consider the following issues: • Accuracy of the material • Appropriateness for the intended audience • Clarity • How design/multimedia features complement content

Revision
You will have about a half hour to work on revisions to your Word Play page. • Towards the end of the revision period, reconvene with your peer review group to determine who from your group will present his or her Word Play page to the class. Everyone else will present next week. • Presenters will have 5 minutes to showcase their Word Play pages and to explain how they designed them with their audiences in mind.

Identifying Clauses

Using this system, teachers do not mark the correct errors; instead, they withhold or lower a grade until the student revises, reedits, and resubmits the paper for a new reading.

Since the teachers’ comments take the students’ attention away from their own original purposes, students concentrate more, as I have noted, on what the teachers commanded them to do than on what they are trying to say.

There’s an even more important way Descriptivists are wrong in thinking that the Scientific Method is appropriate to the study of language: Even if, as a thought experiment, we assume a kind of nineteenth-century scientific realism—in which, even though some scientists’ interpretations of natural phenomena might be biased, the natural phenomena themselves can be supposed to exist wholly independent of either observation or interpretation—no such realist supposition can be made about “language behavior,” because this behavior is both human and fundamentally normative.

Work in pairs to place the clauses and phrases in an order that makes grammatical sense. Be sure to insert grammatically sound punctuation. It is possible, and it quite often happens, that students follow every comment and fix their texts appropriately as requested, but their texts are not improved substantially, or, even worse, their revised drafts are inferior to their previous drafts.
