The Pictorialist

March 2013 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Our March 7 Program The principal business of the March meeting will be to judge prints from the Wisconsin Print Circuit, (composed of camera clubs which belong to WACCO). It is always interesting to see what other clubs are doing with their photography. Those who were not able to make the February meeting when we showed photos of loved ones, should either bring your loved ones photos to the March meeting on memory sticks, or e-mail them to Sandra Weber at ssweber@wi.rr.com. At the February meeting Sandra explained the workings of Flickr, the photo sharing application which we belong to as a group. Some club members have had difficulties in using the program (your editor is the slow one), and Sandra will try to resolve them. A handout was prepared by Pauline Beck to publicize the Pictorialists, and it says that the March program will involve showing photos from club outings. That particular program will be rescheduled for later in the year. Outings Our next outing will be Saturday, March 2, when we will visit the Zoo. March 2 is a free day, so the only expense will be for parking, and to further reduce this cost we will meet at 9am at the south Park and Ride lot off of Bluemound for motor pooling. Parking is $12.00, so if we share rides the cost to each of us will be minimal. Then, at a date still to be determined, we will have an outing to the Milwaukee Art Museum, to see a program on the history of the use of color in photography. This show, titled Color Rush runs from Feb. 22 to May 19, and the first Thursdays of each month are free days. Exhibitions The fine exhibition of prints in the Welcome Center at LM by John and Dixie Lowin will stay up until our next meeting to give us another chance to see them.. After that, we have been promised the use of the display boards until April 5. Our president may already have asked you to be the next artist to display there after that. To repeat from the last newsletter, Marquette Universitys Haggerty Museum, at 13th and Clybourn, has two photo exhibits from Jan 16 to May 9. One is called Dark Blue The Water is Protagonist with photos by several photographers, all featuring water and what it symbolizes. The other exhibit is by Kevin J. Miyazaki, with pictures of fresh water, the Great Lakes, and portraits of persons who make a living on the water.

At the Wauwatosa Public Library Firefly Room there is a display of photographs (mostly abstractions) by Fred Kreutz. WACCO News The March 9 seminar by Daniel Anderson March 9 is completely sold out. However, if you didnt sign up in time for that one, WACCO is sponsoring another seminar, on portrait photography, to be presented by Fuzzy Duenkel, who lives in West Bend. It will be presented May 4, Saturday, from 1pm to 5pm t the Midway Hotel Brookfield Symposium Room. The cost is reasonable. If you belong to a WACCO club, which we all do, the price is $20 if you sign up by April 22nd, and $30 after that. Mr. Duenkel has won all kinds of awards and has exhibited internationally. Our president, Richard Yehl, knows him and his work, and recommends attendance. WACCO 2nd Annual Exhibit Mary Dumont has announced plans for a second exhibit in the Reus building of prints by WACCO members. The theme is urban or natural landscapes. Photos must be mounted and framed, the frames at least 16 x 20 inches. Each photographer can submit two digital images for consideration, to Mary Dumont by July 27. Marys e-mail address is marydumont@gmail.com, and her phone no. is 414-416-5633. Wisconsin Circuit Competition and Exhibition You still have until March 10 to enter the Wisconsin Circuit competition. Judging is April 15. For more information and for entry forms go to http://wisconet.com.
