Analogous Harmony

The font family I chose is entitled Frontage--a relatively new layered font by French designer Juri Zaech, rst published on March 5, 2012. The Frontage family entails six different styles, from shadow to outline to 3D and more. This series of styles played to the look I was seeking in my alphabet poster: vintage, friendly, handcrafted look of facade signs. Because the individual letters need to be easily distinguished on the poster, Frontage offered a neat, clean, and bold choice that also allowed me to play with different textures and depths. The layered type system allowed me to stack different fonts and apply different layers of the color harmony to the Cities A-Z title. My audience is those who enjoy the old Hollywood glamour or vintage feel to artwork. I chose cities around the world instead of domestic cities because I felt that would play better to the visual theme. If I were to choose domestic cities, I would likely focus more on Americana themes. My design message is focused on conveying the excitement of the surprises the world has in store in us regardless of the different languages or culture. Despite the gaps in knowledge, we can still connect through this alphabet and this visual theme.
