service delivery, and with PowerVM, the ability to virtualize the system is included. An important component of the AIX Solution Edition is the choice of selected applications available from Independent Software Vendors, which further capitalize on the system’s deep integration with the database and middleware. The AIX Solution Editions are orderable packages of AIX and Power Systems or PureFlex systems that can only be purchased in combination with eligible business applications. The eligible solutions are selected from Industry Software Vendors (ISVs) applications and from IBM software applications which are designed with a high affinity to IBM middleware and the AIX operating system.

existing infrastructure, resulting in faster deployment time and time to value. The Power 730 offers the advantages of a Power 710, with nearly double the processing capability and dramatically expanded I/O capacity, ideal for running multiple application and infrastructure workloads in a virtualized environment. The Power 720 offers a reliable, secure distributed application server or consolidation server for AIX workloads in either a 4U rack or a tower configuration. It is often the choice for customers looking for a powerful stand-alone system. And the Power 740 makes an excellent choice as a large database application server, or a consolidated server with up to 16-cores of POWER7 processing and very extensive I/O capabilities. The AIX Solution Editions include no-charge core activations for one half of the processor cores on each of those Power models. The AIX Solution Edition is also available with the IBM PureFlex System in the Express, Standard, or Enterprise configurations. The PureFlex System combines compute, storage, networking, virtualization and management into a single infrastructure system that is expert at sensing and anticipating resource needs to optimize your infrastructure.

Built on POWER7 technology
The AIX Solution Editions are built on POWER7® processorbased systems, which represent a true leap forward to more intelligent systems that minimize complexity, automate processes, and reduce energy consumption, downtime and other operational costs. The AIX Solution Editions are available in four Power System models, enabling businesses to choose the size and configuration that fits their needs best. The IBM Power 710 Express is an easy-to-buy, install and manage 2U rack based server that can seamlessly fit into your

IBM AIX: The future of UNIX
The IBM Power Systems platform with AIX technology is the worldwide leader in UNIX.share.2 An open standards–based UNIX operating system, IBM AIX software exploits decades of IBM technology innovation. According to ITIC’s 2010 - 2011 survey, the IBM AIX operating system delivered the highest reliability scores among 19 different server operating system platforms, including Linux and other UNIX operating systems.3 AIX technology offers deep integration and optimization with PowerVM virtualization and PowerHA® high availability software as well as optimization through IBM’s middleware and software stack, including IBM DB2® software and IBM WebSphere® Application Server software that are incorporated into many of the ISV solutions available with the AIX Solution Edition.

PowerVM: Virtualization without limits
With maximum server utilization and server virtualization top of mind for many IT organizations today, PowerVM software delivers high levels of sustained utilization, while at the same time providing flexibility in the deployment of virtual machines. IBM PowerVM Micro-Partitioning® capabilities deliver the ability to run up to 10 partitions per processor core, and Live Partition Mobility enables clients to move active partitions between servers, virtually eliminating application downtime for planned system maintenance. The AIX Solution Editions include PowerVM Standard Edition, and for those who require the Live Partition Mobility or Active Memory Sharing capability, the PowerVM Enterprise Edition is an available alternative.

IBM Middleware: Synergistic with Power Systems
The AIX Solution Editions are designed to leverage the broad capabilities of the IBM middleware products. For example, IBM DB2 database software offers industry leading performance, scalability, and reliability for mixed workloads on distributed systems, offering unparalleled efficiencies for staffing and storage. IBM Informix® is a reliable, low cost, and hassle free database that is often chosen by solution providers for its best-of-breed performance and autonomy. IBM WebSphere® Application Server provides the flexibility, efficiency and intelligent management that an agile, cost-effective business requires, helping to speed the delivery of applications and services, to operate efficiently, reliably and ensure security and control. And Cognos Business Intelligence can help customers make better business decisions and manage performance for optimized business results.
