When people talk about voyaging to the ends of the earth, Madagascar is one of those mythical, exotic, farflung places that qualifies as an ‘end.’ It almost seems to fall off the globe, hanging as it does near the edge of southeastern Africa.

A sweet way to spend a Wednesday! Yesterday's weather conditions enabled students in the Shaw Nature Reserve's Maple Syrup Program to collect 35 gallons of maple sap.
Today conditions were perfect for maple sap flow. With daytime temperatures above freezing and nighttime temperatures below, students in our Maple Syrup Program collected 35 gallons of sap! Although that is a lot of sap, it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. How sweet it is!
