York Events 2013 issue 1

For people with dementia and their carers Easy Going Walk we will be joining another of the City of York’s Health Walks leaving from Explore Library on Tuesdays 5 February and 5 March to take a stroll around the less busy part of the City. The walk will take approximately 45 minutes and be followed by an optional cup of tea / coffee and chat while we recover from our exertion! Boccia / Easy Sport join us on Wednesdays 6th February and 6 March from 2.00pm to 3.30pm at New Earswick Bowls Club for some sporting fun in a very relaxed atmosphere. The session is open to all abilities and no specific equipment, clothing or prior experience is required. The active part of the afternoon is followed by refreshments including delicious freshly made scones! Dance Café whether you want to dance or not, come along to our Dance Café, on Tuesdays 12 February and 12 March from 12.00pm to 3.00pm at Tramways Club. All welcome to enjoy the music, optional two course lunch, booked on 01904 658106) and an opportunity to get back on the dance floor. New: Reading group Come along on Wednesdays 13 February and 13 March for an opportunity for people who enjoy reading or listening to stories, poetry, accounts of special events or whatever is your choice . The sessions will take place from 10.30am to 12.00pm at York Explore Library. Avenue - 3rd Wednesday, 20 February, 20 March, 17 April 2013 Kirk Café New Earswick Bowls Club, Huntington Road, York- 1st Tuesday, 5 February, 5 March 2013 Singing for the Brain Every week on Monday morning and Thursday afternoon - ring us to book a place. Are you a family carer in need of information and support? Consider making a confidential appointment with one fo our support staff or join one of our courses Caring and coping, a 6 week (half a day per week) course featuring speakers on topics such as what is dementia, understanding behaviour, legal, local services and benefit advice etc. No obligation waiting list is being taken for a course after Easter. Carers' information programme: a 4 week (half a day per week) course for those who have either already attended a course, or where the cared for person is further into the dementia journey. This course will start on 26 February. at Holgate Villa at 10 am. Many thanks to all who participated in any way, including our Singing for Brain groups who provided a musical the warm up! We have just learnt we will be receiving a grant to develop an exciting new Cinema / Reminiscence programme which we hope to provide from late April. memorabilia from previous decades to take to our memory cafes and activity groups. Themes are: Transport, Childhood, Holidays, Housework/DIY, and Sensory items! So please get looking at the back of cupboards or ask your older relatives and friends to help us provide a meaningful activity for those who attend our services.
