ESTABLISHMENT OF DVB-T DEPARTMENT

Preamble In 2006 during World Radio Conference held in Geneva, the world through administrative units represented at the conference resolved to change from the current analogue TV transmission technology. In Kenya the government identified the urgency of the matter and incorporated various policy principles to prepare for the eventual transition: A task Force on digital migration was created by the minister of Information and Communications. The task force completed its report by October 2007. The report provided broad guidelines on the best management and technological practices to realize the necessary reforms required in the broadcasting sector. Among the proposals that were adopted were the Segmentation of the broadcasting industry into two namely: Network operation and Content operations. Establishment of a signal distributor for a broadcaster (Network operator). KBC transmission infrastructure to be made available for use in the establishment of a digital broadcasting network to be financed by the government. Creation of an independent transmission organization to manage distribution services in an equitable non discriminatory manner to all broadcasters.
