Summary The Interventional Radiology Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients having procedures in Angiography, ultrasound, x-ray, CT, MRI, mammography and nuclear medicine in accordance with The London Clinic protocols and policies, the departmental procedures and guidelines, the Consultant's orders and the NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional practice. Principal Areas of Responsibility To undertake nursing assessments for a wide range of patients To act as the identified nurse for patients attending diagnostic and therapeutic procedures assessing, planning implementing and evaluating their care

To maintain confidentiality at all times To act as a patient advocate To establish effective interdepartmental liaison to achieve optimum levels of patient care and to encourage good working relations within the multidisciplinary team To ensure legibility and accuracy of nursing records and awareness of legal implications of this documentation To attend mandatory training and updates To ensure adherence to Clinic and Departmental guidelines and policies To provide specialist Nursing Skills, including assisting Radiologists during interventional procedures, both as a scrub nurse and circulating nurse To assist the Radiologists during therapeutic and diagnostic procedures To promote safe practice and professional conduct To be flexible in staffing situations and assisting in other areas as required To regularly participate in departmental meetings to enhance team communication and to participate in the promotion of the department and the clinic To undertake training in recovery and use the skills to care for patients following sedation or anaesthesia To liaise with anesthetists in delivering care to patients To liaise with floor nurses, enabling the continuity of care To have a good knowledge base of radiological procedures and be able to use that knowledge to inform both floor nurses and patients of specific requirements needed before and after their procedure Have an awareness of departmental budget to promote effective use of resources at all times To be conversant with the Clinic computer system

Education and Training To act as a mentor to students, teaching and assessing as appropriate Assist with the orientation of new or agency staff To promote research based practice, quality assurance and clinical audits where appropriate Have a commitment to improve patient care by participating in audit and research projects within the department To identify and develop training needs in line with individual performance review To maintain and expand professional knowledge through competencies and continued professional development To keep an accurate record of Continued Professional Development

Person Specification STAFF NURSE Feature Sought Qualifications Essential Requirements Registered nurse. ILS Desirable requirements The Safer Sedation/Anaesthetic Course. Mentorship Course. To have previous experience in managing and treating anaesthetised and sedated patients, including the experience to recognise acute changes in a patients condition and instigate the appropriate action. To have understanding and knowledge of current nursing issues. To have knowledge of radiological interventions, contrast media, drugs and equipment used in interventional procedures. Pre procedural nursing assessment of patients. Preparing requirements and equipment for procedures Recovering sedated patients.

Experience

Experience working in an acute medical setting, recognising acute changes in a patients condition and instigate the appropriate action. Ordering and supply of stock and control. To be familiar with Nursing Models.

Knowledge

Skills

Performing pre procedure nursing assessments. Nursing post surgical patients in an acute medical setting. Demonstrate a high level of clinical practice. To be articulate, enthusiastic and flexible.

Terms and Conditions Sheet Post Department Location Band/Grade Salary Range Cost of Living London Weighting Hours per week Increments Staff Nurse Radiology The London Clinic, 20 Devonshire Place, London W1G 6BW 5 (Equivalent to E4 grade) 24,465.00 to 28,010.00 per annum 979.00 1,000.00 4,145.00 35 hours per week The incremental date is the anniversary of date of commencement with the Clinic. An incremental increase will take place on the 1st of the month following 12 months service, until the employee reaches the top of the scale. 175 hours per annum. The annual leave year currently runs from January December. Annual leave entitlements are calculated on complete months of service and those employees starting after January will have their leave calculated on a pro-rata basis for the rest of the leave year. 8 days per year, pro rata The Clinic operates a contributory pension fund which employees are eligible to join on completion of the trial period. This applies from the date of commencement at 3 x annual salary. Non-contributory, with eligibility to join on completion of the trial period Available on appointment
