Analysis of the Governors’ questionnaire for parents 141 completed questionnaires were returned to the school.

Thank you to all of you for spending the time giving us your views. Mia Singh’s mother was the winner of the prize draw and she wins the cinema tickets. Overall the feedback has been extremely positive and we received some very useful comments which the Governors and Senior Leadership will look into. From the questionnaires the % of parents who strongly agreed or agreed with each statement is below Statement High attendance is important for my child's progress My child is safe at school My child gets on well with all other children at school My child is making good progress I would recommend Balby Central Primary to other families The school is well led and managed My child is taught well at school My child is encouraged contribute to the wider community My child is encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle My child is happy and enjoys coming to school The school communicates with me effectively about my child's progress The right amount and variety of school visits are organised for the children The school communicates with me effectively about school events and activities The school communicates with me effectively about how to support my child's learning My child is encouraged to work hard and do their best The school has a good range of resources to support my child's learning The school understands and responds to my child's needs The school deals with any incidents and bullying effectively The staff are welcoming and listen to my concerns There is a good standard of behaviour at Balby Central % 98.59 98.59 98.58 98.58 97.87 97.87 97.22 97.20 97.16 97.16 97.16 96.45 96.45 96.45 95.74 95.04 94.66 93.66 91.49 83.10

It is good to see that parents recognise the importance that attendance has on their child’s learning and that they feel their child is safe whilst at the school. The biggest area of concern for parents was pupil behaviour and the way the school deals with bullying. However, several parents did not reply to these statements saying they could not comment as their child had not encountered any bullying issues.

Bullying is something the school takes very seriously and the anti-bullying policy and processes adopted by the school are reviewed regularly by the Governing body. Communication between the school and the parents was considered good by most, although some felt the school could communicate more about how their child is progressing and how they can support their child’s progress. One suggested some support for parents in the new methods used to teach maths. This is something which, if proved of interest to other parents, could be developed. Healthy lifestyle was another area which needs to be looked at – only 45.4% of parents strongly agreed with the statement. The school will be focussing on healthy eating and will be working with parents to see how we can both encourage the children to be more health aware. Once again the Governing Body would like to thank you for spending the time to answer the questionnaire. We do take your feedback seriously.

Comment Action I would like to be kept informed about my son's progress A few times I have sent photos in that I have taken of events Prom/ young voices but have had no communication that they have been received/viewed or how they have been used whuich would have been nice an overview of what children will be learning each half term in order to better support with books, other materials etc There has been a dramatic improvement at Balby Central over the last 2 years - well done! thinks the school could do more trips, thinks that attendance is important yet commented that the school had refused a holiday asked for more 1:1 for Charlotte yet disagreed that attendance is important to child's progress On 1 occasion my child was allowed to go home with someone I had not authorised. Joseph is a happy boy but does not like going to school Very pleased regards emily's learning and school environment concerns over bullying in the school - doesn't feel school has addressed the issues for their child difficult for me to communicate due to my job commitment (hours) would have liked the option of neither agree or disagree Agreed that child safe at school but commented apart from breaking her arm Shannon loves school More outside playspace Suggestions for improvement - I really don't have any at this time. I think this school is outstanding!! And my child is progressing and growing and learning so much, from all the encouragement, fantastic support and staff. I am very grateful Offering parents the necessary skills to help with homework, especially maths As I work school hours it would be great if occassionally activities/class shows/work viewings were available after school need to have more resources with regards to dyslexia/learning difficulties Homework according to the child's level The school do with extra classes to improve learning Could have more homework How incidents are dealt with could be improved and how certain children are dealt with when misbehaving My daughter suggests improvement in the girls toilets ie more effective hand dryers and the standard of cleanliness raised Reception classes need more ventilation
