-60% of college students reported having their sleeping or studying interrupted by another persons drinking.

-60% of students actually support stricter penalties for the use of fake IDs to purchase alcohol illegally. -our own expectations about what we will or wont get out of drinking can have a huge impact on how we experience alcohol and how much we drink. -men drink more alcohol than women. -women have less body water for alcohol to dissolve in and less of an enzyme in the stomach, so higher BAC than men -eat before and while drinking, pace drinking to one or fewer per hour, and choose drinks with less alcohol content -alcohol is a depressant drug -good idea to keep bac below .04% -risk of death increases if it is .28 or higher -black out when it is .15 (cant record anything) -Drinking alcohol alters activity in a brain region called the hypothalamus and causes the body to get rid of more water than it should. -Unfortunately, there isnt a whole lot you can do to cure a hangover. Drinking water will help with the dehydration, but really all you can do is wait it out. -A brownout isnt all that different. When people have brownouts, they may not initially remember something that happened, but when prompted to remember they can eventually pull their memories together. -Vomiting is a clear indication that your body thinks its in trouble. And if you are around someone who has become physically sick from drinking, its important that you make sure your friend is not lying flat on his or her back. Turn your friend on one side to avoid your friend choking on his or her own vomit. -A lot of people assume that vomiting will lower their BAC and help them sober up. But the truth is that vomiting will only prevent more alcohol from being absorbed it will not lower your BAC if alcohol is already in your system. And forcing yourself to vomit is a never a good idea. It can be extremely dangerous. -High doses of alcohol can impair the functions of a region of the brain called the hippocampus, which plays a vital role in memory and learning. -the brain continues to develop until people are in their mid-20s. -Some people say that they feel energized or happy after having a couple of drinks. This is most likely because alcohol enhances activity in the nucleus accumbens a part of the brain that feels or interprets pleasure. -With a BAC around .05%, someone who's drinking will start to lose muscle coordination and may stagger when walking. This is because alcohol impairs a part of the brain called the cerebellum. The cerebellum plays a key role in helping a person coordinate muscle movements and respond to hazards on the road. Reaction times can be affected by an impaired cerebellum. This is why driving under the influence of alcohol is so dangerous. -As people drink and their BAC level approaches 0.05%, they might notice that they have to make a lot of visits to the bathroom. This is because alcohol affects activity in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus, which causes more frequent urination. Going to the bathroom all the time also causes dehydration. For this reason (as well as a

lot of other reasons, like helping to keep your BAC level in check), its a good idea to drink plenty of water when drinking alcohol. -Most men- 75% of those surveyed-don't think it's right to pressure a woman to drink alcohol to facilitate sex. -Fully 90% of men would stop sexual activity if their partner said "no." The truth is that most men place an extremely high value on sexual consent-but not everyone realizes this. In fact, most men underestimate how many of their male peers actually think it's important to acquire consent from their partners. -Actually, according to research, about 50% of all sexual assaults, including rapes, involve alcohol-use by the perpetrator. Many other sexual assaults are committed by serial predators who tend not to drink themselves in order to maintain more control over their victim. -By law, a person whose decision-making skills are impaired by alcohol or drugs is considered by law to be incapable of giving consent, even if he or she appears to be giving consent at that time. -Based on the results from one study, 1 in 33 men are raped during their lifetime, either in childhood or adulthood. -Homosexual, heterosexual, transgender and bisexual men can all be victims of sexual assault. Most male-on-male rapes are committed by men who identify themselves as heterosexual. Its important to understand that sexual assault is not about sexual attraction or orientation; it has to do with asserting violence, aggression and control over the victim. -The number is actually much higher: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men were sexually abused as children. Childhood sexual abuse is a serious crime that occurs far too often. It is difficult to know exactly how many cases of childhood sexual abuse there are, because these crimes often go unreported. -By definition, child sexual abuse is any sexual violation forced on a child by an adult. These violations can be physical or non-physical, such as being exposed to sexually explicit materials or verbal abuse.
