NORTH MAHARASHTRASHTRA UNIVERSITY.Rules 2006.D. submission and evaluation of thesis and the viva voce and defense of thesis shall be as follows: 1) ELIGIBILITY * Persons having minimum of 50 percent marks at Post Graduate examination OR * Persons who have done Master’s degree by research and have published at least one research paper in a good research journal. The rules regarding the eligibility. ordinarily. On the advice of the concerned Research and Recognition Committee (RRC). 2006] The North Maharashtra University offers research programmes in different subjects and in inter-disciplinary areas leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. the BUTR or Vice-Chancellor in his discretionary powers. The candidate shall work under the supervision of a research guide recognized by the University.

All rights in this regard shall rest with the RRC. Applications for research in inter-disciplinary areas and from applicants be longing to a faculty or subject other than the faculty or subject in which the research is proposed to be done shall be considered on the basis of the proven ability and the aptitude of the researcher for such a kind of research. along with the abstract of research proposal with details of the student. guide and institution and shall also be announced on the website of the university to avoid delay. after an oral presentation by the research student.

The topic. guide and institute shall be intimated to student.R.Rules 2006. in any subject in the Faculty of Commerce and Management provided that they possess a Bachelor’s Degree of any statutory University as mentioned in 1(a). the guide should be from the subject in which the candidate has completed his/her master degree and the co-guide from the allied subject. programme shall apply to the Registrar in the prescribed application form at any time during the year. along with the registration fee as may be prescribed from time to time.D. The decisions in this regard shall be taken by the Research and Recognition Committee/s concerned.D. in Engineering & Technology on the recommendation of the appropriate Board of Studies to submit his thesis for the Ph. In such cases. The guide and co-guide for one particular thesis can not be from same subject.

The duration of registration shall be valid for five years for full time students and six years for part time students working in colleges/industry. the candidate’s date of registration will be the date of acceptance of proposal by RRC. For this purpose. the Guide & the co-guide recognized by this or in special circumstances. The condition of presentation may be waived in case of international students and the applicants having M. MONITORING THE PROGRESS: All the registered candidates shall be required to submit an elaborate progress report of the work done by the candidate to the university through their research guide and co-guide after every six month.
6. (d) In science faculty the candidate from NMU shall not be allowed to work under the guidance from a teacher from other university. as a Post Graduate Center for Ph.5
The report shall include all observations meticulously and make specific recommendations on the basis of observations for the acceptance of the ViceChancellor. (c) A candidate may be permitted to work for the Ph.D. U. (a)
SUBMISSION AND EVALUATION OF THESIS Submission of Synopsis: A candidate can be allowed to submit his synopsis after a period mentioned in section 2. research under the guidance of a recognized guide from the same institute. (a) Normally a candidate has to work under the guidance of recognized guide at his place recognized by the university. Submission of Thesis: The candidate shall be allowed to submit his/her thesis within six months after the submission of synopsis. The paper bound copies of the thesis shall be submitted in accordance with the specifications. the candidate shall be required to work at least for 180 days ( for the subjects related with experimental work) at the place of guide or co-guide. M.
.Phil degree in this or in any other University. the nature and extent of the author’s individual contribution shall be indicated in the declaration. name of the guide and the month and year of submission shall be printed on the title page and the cover. the thesis shall be written in English.
Note: Thesis shall be submitted in the form of loose bound copies in computer readable form (soft copy) enabling the candidate to incorporate _changes after updating the data. The thesis shall be written in English/Marathi/Hindi.Rules 2006. The declaration shall be certified as correct by the candidate as well as by his Supervisor/ Research Guide. The thesis shall include a certificate by the candidate that ‘the work reported in the thesis has been carried out by the candidate himself/herself and that the material from other sources included in the thesis.D. A candidate will not be permitted to submit a thesis on the work for which a degree has already been conferred on him/her in this or in any other University. Along with the four copies of the thesis the candidate shall also be required to submit 15 copies of the abstract of the thesis highlighting the findings and original contribution of the research. A similar certificate shall also be given by the guide. Once the thesis is recommended for award of the Ph. The candidate may include copies of his/her original contribution/s in the thesis in the end.6

The paper used for printing of the thesis shall be of A4 size. If the thesis is based on joint research. if any. degree. if suggested by the referees. Engineering and Technology. The candidate shall submit to the University. A margin of approximately one and half inches shall be kept on the left-hand side. The work described in the thesis has not been used by the candidate for the award of any other degree or diploma’. In the faculty of Science. The cover shall not be more than approximately 330gsm The title of the thesis.

In the case of a candidate working independently. postal delay. When an examiner accepts the invitation. the Vice-Chancellor in his capacity as Chairman. the University.the invitation shall be sent to the next examiner on the panel.
7. . University shall forward the thesis to the examiner within a week from the date of receipt of acceptance letter or the submission of thesis. If an examiner does not accept the invitation within a period of two months from the date of dispatch of the letter. EVALUATION After the Vice-Chancellor has approved the panel of examiners. (i)

The external examiners shall independently send their reports in the format to the University with a copy to internal examiner within sixty days from the date of receipt of the thesis. shall cancel his appointment and invite the next examiner on the approved panel to evaluate the thesis. a panel of the at least six external examiners. In the event of a request for late submission of report.p65
. the R & R Committee concerned shall recommend to the Vice-Chancellor. If the examiner concerned still fails to comply within the extended period. BOE shall take an appropriate decision in the interest of the candidate concerned. etc. the University will send the reports to the guide for submission of joint report. The synopsis shall be forwarded to the RRC concerned for approval/ acceptance The committee shall recommend to the Vice-Chancellor. without observing necessity of reminder to the examiner.. after the candidate submits his/her synopsis. the University shall invite the first two examiners on the approved panel to examine the thesis.Rules 2006. the University shall send him/her a reminder immediately after the expiry of the said period and request him/her to submit the report within thirty days there of. The guide of the candidate shall be the internal examiner.D. (i)
APPOINTMENT OF EXAMINERS/REFEREES: The procedure for appointment of the examiners shall be undertaken soon. After receiving the report from the external examiners.

VIVA VOCE AND OPEN DEFENCE OF THESIS After receiving favorable reports from both the external referees & joint report from the internal referee/guide.e. after ascertaining that all the three reports are favourable allow to arrange theviva and the open deferense of thesis. The University shall get the thesis examined by the additional examiner from the panel of examiners approved by the Vice-Chancellor if the report of one of the external referees is not favorable. date. The candidate will have to submit four copies of the final bound thesis after incorporating all the corrections as per the suggestions of the referees. the student shall be declared as failed. In case both the external examiners give unfavorable reports.
. The date suitable to the internal and the external examiners shall be fixed for conducting the viva voce. The referees appointed will be required to submit specific report in the prescribed proforma supplied by the university along with the detailed report.Rules 2006. The fair copies of the thesis shall be submitted by the candidate before the viva-voce/defense. If the external referees have suggested some corrections in his/her evaluation reports regarding Typographical.D. The examiners shall jointly evaluate the performance of the candidate. The day. guide and chairman of the open defense .D. (i. internal examiner and external examiner. degree). the referee. the university will inform the guide who will ask the candidate to make necessary changes/corrections in the thesis. The open defense of the thesis shall take place in the presence of Chairman approved by the Vice-Chancellor.

Both the examiners and the Chairman present for the viva-voce and the defense of thesis shall submit their final consolidated report about the award of the Ph. the third copy will be returned to the candidate and fourth copy will be retained by the Supervisor/Guide.9
