Using OrCAD Capture and OrCAD Layout printed circuit board design software in room 9341.

Turn on the PC, if not already on, and wait for it to boot up. If the PC is already on - reboot it When prompted press Ctrl + Alt + Del (hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and press the Del key momentarily). At the Logon Information screen enter your User name. Type in your Password. Using the mouse, position the cursor on OK and then press the left mouse button (this is commonly called left clicking). Windows XP will now load.

To load OrCAD go to start>>All Programs>>Local Software>>ACES>>M-P>>OrCAD16.0>> and left click on OrCAD Capture. The OrCAD suite will now load. If a pop-up window occurs (titled Cadence product choices) select Orcad Capture CIS then click on OK.

Starting a new project
Position the cursor on the menu item along the top of the screen called File and left click Position the cursor on the menu item named New and another menu will appear. Position the cursor on the menu item named Project and left click. The New Project window should now appear. Type PROBE in the Name box Ensure that PC Board Wizard is selected (the circle next to PC Board Wizard has a black dot in it) Left click on Browse Left click on the box labelled Drives and a list of available drives will appear Click on F:// Click on Create Dir A window will appear, enter PROBE in the Name box and click OK A directory probe will now be created and shown in the select directory window. (You may need to scroll down to find this.) Make sure that probe is highlighted and click OK In the Select Directory window should show only F:\ PROBE. Click the probe directory to select it. Click OK. The text F:\PROBE should now be in the Location box If all is well click OK A window titled PCB project wizard now appears, make sure that Enabled project simulation is not selected and click next. Another window titled PCB project wizard now appears. You will now be asked to select the libraries that you wish to include. These libraries contain information about various components. Click on CAPSYM.OLB, which will highlight it and then click ADD. CAPSYM.OLB should now have moved into the Use these libraries box. Using the same procedure, add the following libraries. Amplifier.olb Connector.olb Discrete.olb misc.olb MiscLinear.olb opamp.olb Transistor.olb Check that you now have these EIGHT libraries in the right hand Use these libraries box Click on Finish OrCAD now creates some project files on your homespace. v6.0 1 stuart birchall ken duty
