How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Wednesday, 13 March 13

Our main task is a short social realist lm by which the protagonist makes his way through the schooling system but nds himself dealing with a lot of stress and begins to go off track as a result. Ancillary task - we combined a lm review and lm poster to support our main product

Before undertaking our ancillary task we needed to gain a good basis of knowledge of other lm reviews and posters by which would we would notice the typical conventions of these media products Individually we all researched several posters and lm reviews from lms such as Fish tank, Adulthood etc.. From this we identied typical conventions of both a poster and review.

The typical conventions of a lm poster we found were: One main image dominant on the page Name of lm written clearly awards the lm may of won lm star ratings director of the lm simple colour scheme

We have one main dominant image on our lm poster which laments to the audience that this will be the main character in our lm. The boy pictured reects him being deep in thought about something which has the effect of making the audience wanting to know more about his life and what is making appear deep in thought The bland, simple colour scheme makes the focus of the poster stay on the main image and keep the focus on the lm. The dark colour scheme is also a metaphor for maxs life and the stress he begins to feel.

The lm name is clearly situated at the top of the page with large font to make it stand out but also adds further intrigue into what the lm may be about.

we have included our brand logo our poster as it is important for everything our media company produce have ourselves associated with it as it will help build our brand identity and in turn our reputation.

We included short quotes from broadsheet papers in order to build the prestige of our lm. However, after reection, although our target demographic is middle class, these papers would not appeal to the target demographic our lm is aimed at as 13-19 year olds on the whole would not choose to read broadsheets such as the Guardian. As a result, after the feedback we received we discovered that the star ratings would appeal more to our target audience in terms of attracting them to watching our lm from seeing our lm poster.

The date gives the audience a clear indication as to when they are able to go and see the lm.

Typical conventions of a lm review are: One main image with smaller sub images the review written in columns with a font size of 8 Film star rating page numbers, social networking sites etc.. Name of lm clearly displayed

Wednesday, 13 March 13

The name of our lm is in a capitalised, bold font conveying to the audience what lm this review is about.

One main image which is a screen shot from our lm. This would entice the audience into wanting the see our lms as they want to nd out more about how the characters have found themselves in the situation depicted in the picture

The smaller sub images lend themselves to our lm and gives the audience a further insight into scenes that feature in our lm which, in turn, makes the audience want to see the lm.

Star rating is clear and leaves no doubt into the audiences minds as to the quality of our lm. The strap line adds further insight into our lm and makes the audience want to see the lm that offers The Raw Truth Personied The review is situated in four, neat columns with the writing size of 8 creating a professional depiction of our lm, appealing the audience as its both eye catching and easy to read.

we included a behind the scenes section of the review which includes pictures of us lming which makes the audience feel as if by watching our lm they will be more involved in the actual production after reading this review and in turn, which encourages them to go and see it.

Synergy
The lm poster, review and short lm all give different depictions of separate bits of our lm but when taken together create a perfect symmetry of our lm and as result all make the audience want to see it. The poster acts as a still visual for the audience and gives the audience an immediate insight into the genre of our lm. The review uses the lm poster but goes into more detail providing the audience with an in depth analysis of our lm which has the effect of the audience having more knowledge of our lm as a result of the review coupled with the lm poster. They work in a perfect synergy to market the lm effectively The lm itself then creates the nal synergy and conrms what the lm poster and review were suggesting and targeted to do.

Wednesday, 13 March 13

These three media products have an extremely strong synergy as without one they would each be ineffective as would have nothing to support the depictions made. The lm posters aim is to market and advertise the lm, as a result of that they would then go and see the lm The lm review couples itself with the marketing of the lm but gives a verdict on the lm which further encourages other people to go and see the lm. The lm is then the nal port of call for the marketing machine. Without one of these media products the advertising and marketing of our short lm would be ineffective. Without a lm poster the potential target demographic of our lm would have little way of knowing a lm has been produced and would therefore, mean a lesser amount of people would see our lm.
