Detailed Calculations for Electrical Cable Sizing and Voltage Drop Cable Sizing Calculation for 3.6/6(7.2)kV Cable Circuit Between 450kVA,33/3.3/0.415kV Transformer and HV Switchgear. The 3.3kV winding has a capacity of 425kVA.

a)

Full Load Current Carrying Capacity is Calculated as below Rated Transformer Power kVA = 425 kVA

Operating voltage on the MV winding of Transformer shall vary depending on the actual connected motor rated voltage. We consider the minimum operating voltage of the trafo as per available taps. Hence we consider Transformer Primary Voltage kV = Full Load Current IL = =

We select 150mm 2 cable for our sizing calculation 6kV,1Cx150mm 2 cable current rating As per manufacturer catalogue in section 6. Total derating factor as per section 4.1.4 I = 451 A

Please refer section 6. Since the fault current calculated is well below the rated short circuit current, the selected cable is adequate.
