October

2010
The San Francisco access will be via the existing commuter rail system and through the existing tunnel in Dogpatch, parallel to 280/7th Street to downtown. The system is an electric steel rail, steel wheel (1890) design, not high speed in San Francisco, so will be noisy when going around corners, like how BART screams. The current design proposes an at grade rail crossing at the 16th/7th/Mississippi Streets intersection, with 16th Street rebuilt to go under the tracks for pedestrian/auto traffic. This design will interfere with proposed and under construction developments for lots north and south of 16th Street for at least 3 blocks each side of the tracks, splitting the UCSF Mission Bay campus and 3 blocks east of the tracks in Potrero Hill/Showplace Square. We, the Potrero Boosters, along with UCSF, Planning Department find this crossing design unacceptable. Come learn more and share your opinion about this important issue at the November meeting. Last Chance this year for Booster Bucks Presidents Message A fun Pot-Pourri in September
We had a delightful time on a hot September night hearing about the new Plow restaurant, the new Chats Bistro at 20th and Connecticut Streets, looking at plans and talking to the owner/developer of 1717 17th Street, and hearing about the happenings at our local garbage company. And did I mention ice cream? What else would the Boosters serve on the hottest night in September? Remember - through October 2010, if you bring a neighbor to a meeting and they become a new member that night, or you refer someone who joins, you both get Booster Bucks a $5 gift certificate to the Good Life Grocery as our Thank You gift.

The October Meeting

We will discuss several ballot issues coming up for your vote in November. We will also discuss a public safety issue that came up at both of the McKinley Square groups whether we should consider doing something about the 18th Street pedestrian overpass and/or other pedestrian overpasses. There is some idea that the overpasses are used as a get-away path for criminals. They are also certainly used legitimately as a good connector to the Mission much safer for pedestrians and bicyclists than street routes. There is talk that we might want to consider closing the overpasses at night, like we do parks, closing them completely, like we did to one further south, or leaving them alone. Come hear reports from two McKinley groups and give us your input.

November Meeting Preview

In addition to the California High Speed Rail Authority, well have AT&T tell us why they want to put several hundred more huge boxes - street furniture - on our streets, and where. On the fun side, youll have the unique opportunity to see and bid on a custom portrait of the historic Potrero Hill Neighborhood House and/or to have a portrait of your own home done by a local Potrero Hill artist.

Dont miss it!
