Intermediate classes are a transition class allowing a stepped progression between Novice and the open classes. Entrants who win a first prize or cup in the Intermediate Class will progress to the open Classes in the following season.

Sudden Oak Death


Sudden Oak Death is a serious disease threat to a wide range of plants. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds many scientifically and historically important species and individual plants and are keen to do what is necessary and practical to prevent the spread of Sudden Oak Death to the Garden. The Caley supports them in this endeavour. The Show Classes affected are those that contain woody plant material: i.e. Classes 3.1 5.17 5.18 5.19 11.3 12.1 12.2 12.3 Please do not exhibit any of the following:

Show Regulations
1) 2) Entry for Members and Non-members to all Classes is free. Completed Entry Forms (insert) should be sent or emailed to pam_whittle@btinternet.com, by Wednesday 20th March prior to the Show, or presented, with the Exhibits, at the Fletcher Building (via Back Entrance, Inverleith Place Lane) between 2.00pm and 9.00pm on the Friday and, on strictly exception basis only, by arrangement between 8am and 8.30am on the Saturday morning of the Show. Staging for all Classes can commence at 2.00pm on the Friday. However cars will only be admitted into the Fletcher Hall loading bay (via Back Entrance, Inverleith Place Lane) for dropping off on the Friday and by arrangement only on the morning of the Show. Please note the parking restrictions in on Fridays. (See map for further details) Except for Floral Art class, all cut flower and plant exhibits must have been grown by the Exhibitors themselves and been in their care for not less than two months prior to the Show. A competitor may enter one exhibit only in any one Class, unless otherwise stated. Except where otherwise stated, all exhibits must be shown in Vases supplied by the Show organisers. Staged exhibits can only be moved under the supervision of the Show Convenor or Show Manager. Class cards will be provided and should be placed facedown beside the exhibit. Cultivars should be named or if not known, labelled Unknown: labels and wire to hold labels will be supplied by the Society. Pots must be clean and placed on paper plates supplied by the Society. The Show Committee will appoint Judges but vacancies may be filled by the Show Convenor. Judging will take place between 8.45am and 11:45 on the opening day. There will be strictly no admittance to the hall during judging. Exhibits will be judged in accordance with the RHS Horticultural Show Handbook. While every reasonable precaution will be taken to safeguard exhibits, the Society cannot accept responsibility for exhibits which are damaged, lost or mislaid during the Show. Exhibits not according to Schedule and exhibits deemed unworthy by the Judges, will not be awarded prizes. Plants or material judged to be diseased will be removed. Judges at their discretion may make additional awards where merit warrants, and their decision on merit shall be final. Where two equal first prizes are awarded, the sum offered for 1st and 2nd prizes will be divided equally between the two competitors. Appeals relating to judging must be made to the Show Convenor in writing, together with a deposit of 2.00, before 4.00pm on the first day of the show. The deposit will be returned if the Appeal is upheld. Prize money may be collected between 3.30pm on Saturday and 4.00pm on Sunday of the show. Uncollected prize money will be deemed to be a donation to the RCHS. If winners wish to donate their prizes to the society they are encouraged to speak to the Hon. Treasurer as Gift Aid can be added to donations Exhibitors are responsible for ensuring removal of their own exhibits after the Show closes at 5.00pm on the Sunday. Exhibitors must follow the directions of the Society Stewards. Please be patient at this time. If it can be arranged, trophies will be engraved before the Trophy Presentation on the final day. Otherwise, to allow engraving, Award Winners are requested to return Trophies to the Show Convenor before the Show closes. Trophies must be returned to the Show Convenor or Pam Whittle in good order and cleaned at least seven days before the next RCHS Spring Show or handed in at the March Lectures.

Prize money is awarded for 1st (2), 2nd (1) and 3rd (0.50) places in all classes with
the exception of Section 1 where cards are awarded, and the Floral Art section where st nd rd the prizes are 1 (5), 2 (3), and 3 (2) for each class.
