Congratulations
to
Oxford & Lake Orion High School
Bowlers for a Great Season
COLLIER LANES
Congratulations
The new car connection in Ortonville
just grew.
Randy Wise Ford-Ortonville will open
a new showroom and service area 986 S.
Ortonville Road. The new 20,000 square
foot state of the art facility will provide
more room for new and used vehicles on
site and additional service bays. The new
showroom will provide a comfortable lo-
cation to check out the new vehicles from
Ford Motor Company.
“With the investment in the new build-
ing we are looking forward to being a part
of the community for a long time,” said
Joe Greene, manager. “Randy Wise Ford
is committed to providing the Brandon and
Groveland township area with the finest
in Ford products and a first class service
facility to back that up. Ford Motor Com-
pany continues to set high standards for
its vehicles and that is evident with some
of our new vehicles, including the Ford
Focus and Ford Escape.”
From service to commercial fleets to a
certified diesel technician to maintenance
of the family car—the new state-of-the
art service facility can repair all makes
and models.
“The new building is ‘eco-friendly’—
from heating, cooling and even the lights
we use here in the new offices is environ-
mentally responsible—just like many of our
new vehicles,” added Greene. ”There’s a
lot of value and eco-friendliness in the C-
Max and the Focus.”
For 2013 the Ford Fusion and the C-
Max gasoline-electric hybrid models pro-
vide about 47 mpg using a regenerative
braking system capable of capturing and
reusing more than 95 percent of the brak-
ing energy normally lost during the brak-
ing process of vehicles are available.
“Today a lot of people have a Ford F-
150 pickup in their garage, it’s the best sell-
ing vehicle in America—Ford wants the
other vehicle sitting next to it.”
Randy Wise Ford Ortonville makes it
easy to buy a car for a variety of price
ranges.
“We also have a variety of certified pre-
owned vehicles to choose from,” said
Greene. “Later this year the old facility
will be razed providing room for a greater
selection of vehicles.”
Randy Wise Ford continues to give back
to the community through the school sys-
tem. Twice a year community members
are invited to test-drive a variety of new
Ford vehicles for the Drive One 4 UR
School event. Ford Motor Company and
Randy Wise Ford of Ortonville will do-
nate $20 to Brandon High School for each
person who takes a test-drive in a new
Ford. In total, as much as $6,000 could be
earned for the Brandon Blackhawks or
the Goodrich Martians.
Randy Wise, which includes six loca-
tions in southeast Michigan, purchased the
Ortonville location from Arrant Ford in
2004.
Randy Wise owns six area dealerships
offering Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler,
Dodge, Ford, GMC, Hyundai, Jeep, Lin-
coln and Ram.

Good puppies are made, not born. At Common Scents, we
teach more than obedience, we teach life skills. We want
your puppy to be an important member of your family and
the activities that include him. Don’t trust the most
important time in your dog’s development to a pet store or
community ed. class. Our programs are designed by a
Certified Animal Behaviorist to bring out your puppy’s true
potential.

110 GARAGE SALE
The focus is on fun and family at GOB Gymnastics,
142 Harbor Pointe Road, Ortonville.
The family business is owned by Paul and Julie Frezza,
who are joined by their children, Paul, Jr., Garrett, and
Amanda, all of whom are experienced coaches dedi-
cated to making the gym a friendly environment, where
gymnasts and their parents also feel part of the family.
“We are a family-oriented gym,” said Coach Amanda.
“We focus on building good relationships with families
so they can communicate with issues in school and we
can focus on setting priorities. School and education defi-
nitely comes first.”
Gymnastics as a recreational sport is encouraged at
GOB, but the gym is also a member of the Amateur
Athletic Union, a national competitive league.
In 2012, GOB had 40 members competing on its be-
ginner instructional Bronze Team in the AAU and in 2013,
that number has more than doubled to 87 members as
more and more children join our gymnastics school.
GOB Gymnastics has achieved great success with
its competitive level 4 and 5 travel teams as well, with
First Place Team trophies already in 2013. GOB is also
home of the Level 4 State All-Around Champion in 2012.
The facility offers a full Jr. Olympic competitive pro-
gram in gymnastics.
“We are drawing a lot of recreational gymnasts, as
well as gymnasts who want to work at a higher, commit-
ted, competitive level,” said Coach Amanda. “We have
all the equipment and knowledge and experience to coach
gymnasts at both levels and help them reach their goals
and dreams.”
Both girls and boys are encouraged at GOB, with state
of the art equipment for gymnasts to practice every dis-
cipline in their sport. But while they are practicing gym-
nastics skills on the beam, vault, bars, floor, and more,
GOB students also are gaining skills and confidence to
be great all-around athletes.
GOB Gymnastics:a family oriented gym
“We give them the flexibility to try different things
and be on different teams,” said Coach Amanda.
“They are wanted on all different school sports
teams because they have well-rounded athletic abil-
ity and have developed the confidence that helps
them shine.”
GOB Gymnastics teaches tumbling and stunting
for cheerleading teams from multiple schools,
Clarkston, Everest Academy, Waterford Kettering
and Detroit Country Day whose varsity team took
first place in league and district competition.
“We can help build athletic skills at any age,”
Coach Amanda said. “We have low time commit-
ments to allow kids to participate in other activities
and have time with their families. Here at the gym,
you will make friends and your teammates will help
encourage you to push yourself.”
At GOB, when a gymnast achieves a new skill
or makes a great attempt, Coach Paul rings a bell
and everyone, including parents who are welcome
to stay at the gym, stops and watches the accom-
plishment and cheers them on.
Come to GOB and hear the bell ring for you or
your gymnast.

Colleen Burke, Director of values integration
Lourdes Senior Community
248-673-1720
The word “rehabilitation” can strike fear in many as they see what may be painful days
ahead while recovering from heart attacks, strokes, hip or knee fractures or replacements and
various other ailments.
The outstanding physical and spiritual care at the Lourdes Nursing Home, is located on 40-
acres of beautiful lakefront property in Waterford— is aimed at alleviating and removing that
fear while assisting residents on the road to recovery.
“One of the most gratifying things about our job is watching the progress residents make
from the time they arrive until they either go home or to another arrangement such as assisted
living,” said Shela Myrick, nursing home administrator. “I love that Lourdes is faith-based.
Every day, that aspect touches our lives and reminds us of what we’re all about,” she said.
“We have a staff of 12 outstanding employees in the Rehab Department,” Shela added.
“And there is a contingent staff based on scheduling needs. They’re all very committed to our
mission of helping people to recover and being sensitive to each resident’s situation. And our
beautiful campus helps residents to have a positive attitude.
For instance, weather
permitting, some activity
takes place outdoors in
a wonderful at mo-
sphere. The unique set-
ting allows residents to
maintain their indepen-
dence while providing
excellent support.
The nursing home of-
fers short- and long-

comprised of 108 beds. An average of more than 20 short-term rehabilitation residents
receive care from highly qualified physicians, therapists, nurses, dieticians and social
workers. When a resident arrives, a plan is developed and later modified if necessary
as progress is made. Family members are included in the process and their desires respected.
Nearly 60 percent of residents return to their homes each year, and a yearly average of 22
residents return or move to other Lourdes facilities – Fox Manor on the Lake independent living,
Mendelson Home assisted living or Clausen Manor memory care.
Leading the way in helping residents in their recoveries is Cheryl Burford, Senior Rehabilitation
Program Director. She had been an occupational therapist at Lourdes for four years. Recently,
Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford has been named one of the nation’s best facilities by U.S.News
and World Reort.
“The therapy at Lourdes is very special,” Cheryl said. “Because we work very hard to help
residents reach their full potential. One thing I love about Lourdes is there are no distinctions
between therapy, nursing, activities, administration. We all work as a team, with one goal – the
quality of life for our residents.”
From the governor’s quality care award to annual resident and family satisfaction surveys that
reflect 95 percent satisfaction, to four years as best of the best in senior living communities in Oakland County—Lourdes Senior Community provides the
highest quality care.
With our reputation of providing the very best care possible, it is no surprise that we are caring for the children of those we first served in the 1960s and
1970s. When you choose Lourdes as your next home, you won’t be disappointed because it is “A great place to call home.”
Lourdes Senior Community: “Unique, purposeful, respected

While other tree companies have come
and gone—Metropolitan Tree Inc. has
continued to serve the area for more than
46 years.
In addition to the office in Ortonville—
Metropolitan Tree also has locations in
both Clarkston and Detroit.
“We have worked all over Michigan,”
said Ron Pepera, owner and community
member since 1960.
Metropolitan Tree and their employ-
ees take pride in the work they do and
go out of their way to protect your prop-
erty, surrounding trees and landscape
while removing trees and stumps.
Metropolitan Tree has all the skilled
man power, climbers, cranes, aerial lift
trucks, chippers, stump grinders, heavy
brush mowers and equipment to remove
large and hazardous trees and stumps.
From small jobs to land clearing, residen-
tial and commercial.
Metropolitan Tree takes pride in pro-
viding personal service to all their cus-
tomers.
Experienced managers Pepera or
Robert Gillon are on the job site to super-
vise all jobs.
“We are fully insured so that our cus-
Metropolitan Tree open year round stands out from other tree companies
demonstrated by the high ratings and awards received from various
organizations.
tomers can be assured they will not be
liable for injuries or damages.”
When you call during regular business
hours you will talk to a person, not a ma-
chine. Bonnie will answer and she can
schedule appointments and make special
arrangements for your tree work.
Whether trees pose a danger, become
diseased or are damaged after a storm—
the professionals at Metropolitan Tree are
ready to help.
Pepera reminds customers that liabil-
ity and workman’s compensation insurance
is needed prior to tree cutting or you will be
liable for injuries or damages.
In addition to qualified removal and dis-
posal of diseased or infested trees, Metro-
politan Tree also does contract work for
counties, local municipalities, building con-
tractors, commercial and residential cus-
tomers.
During the past years, millions of area
trees have become infested with a variety
of diseases from Dutch Elm disease to
Emerald Ash Borer and recently the Saw-
yer beetles that feed on the bark of twigs
of susceptible live pine trees.
“While the tree may be standing—the
roots rot first underground. If a tree is dead
for three years or more it’s ready to go over,”
said Pepera.
“We understand that economically it’s
tough right now,” said Pepera. “We can
work with you to set up special conditions
for payment. It’s much easier to deal with
a standing tree now rather than a tree that
has fallen on your home.”
Customers should feel confident with
Metropolitan Tree and it shows by the great
number of referrals from our satisfied cus-
tomers. Thank you to all the previous and
current customers that have used our ser-
vice over the years—we appreciate your
business. We are honored to help enhance
your property values and keep the commu-
nity safe from hazardous trees.

Earns Esteemed 2012 Angie’s List
Super Service Award
Award reflects the company’s
consistently high level of customer service
Metropolitan Tree has earned the service industry-coveted
2012 Angie’s List Super Service Award, an honor awarded
annually to approximately 5 percent of all the companies rated
on Angie’s List, the nation’s leading provider of consumer reviews
on local service companies.
“It’s a select group of companies rated on Angie’s List that can
claim the exemplary customer service record of being a Super
Service Award winner,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks.
“Our standards for the Super Service Award are quite high. The
fact that Metropolitan Tree earned this recognition speaks
volumes about its dedication providing great service to its
customers.”
Angie’s List Super Service Award 2012 winners have met strict
eligibility requirements, including earning a minimum number of
reports, an excellent rating from their customers and abiding by
Angie’s List operational guidelines.
Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List.
Companies are graded on an A through F scale in areas ranging
from price to professionalism to punctuality. Members can find

At Smith's Disposal, customer satisfac-
tion is the highest priority. They've recently
expanded their service into Lake Orion and
Oxford.
Smith's understands that customers
have several companies to choose from,
and they feel a responsibility to earn their
loyalty.
While promotions and advertising are
a great way to spur growth, Smith's focuses
on what they feel is even more important:
customer retention.
To offer more convenience, Smith's Dis-
posal has invested in a new software pro-
gram designed specifically for haulers.
It offers customers the option of auto-
mated bill pay and allows them to view their
account online. The web-based program
allows Smith's Disposal to be more stream-
lined and control costs.
Although they have expanded and
strengthened their operations, Smith's Dis-
posal continues to offer the same great ser-
vice.
Smith's hauls household garbage and
has a weekly curbside recycling service
for paper, plastics, and glass. They'll as-
sist you in disposing of large items and
compost. Their staff is proud of the friendly
and helpful hand they reach out to cus-
tomers.
Their haulers are often ready with dog

treats for customers' pets. They regularly take
trash cans back up to seniors' houses, and they
offer a discount to senior citizens.
Smith's Disposal believes very strongly that
their customers are more like neighbors, and
their satisfaction is the driving force behind
everything they do.
Another thing that's always been very im-
portant to Smith's Disposal is community sup-
port. Smith's believes in serving their neigh-
bors.
Every year the family-owned company do-
nates thousands of dollars to worthwhile
causes such as Relay for Life, Lighthouse of
Oakland County, SCAMP, Rainbow Connec-
tion, Waterford Coalition for Youth and Open
Door Outreach Center.
They also support community events includ-
ing Parks and Recreation programs, youth base-
ball, Tons of Trucks, and several local parades
and festivals.
Smith's feels all these programs are impor-
tant to the community, and they are proud to
help out in any way they can.
With such a commitment to community and
customers, it's no wonder Smith's has been able
to serve their neighbors since 1981.
Smith's Disposal is located at 941 White Lake
Road in Clarkston. They are open Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 248-
625-5470 to find out more about their service or

From an empty building to a gem on Lake Louise—
Bullfrogs Restaurant has become the iconic gathering
place to kick back and enjoy the view while feasting on
your favorite meal or beverage.
This year Bullfrogs will celebrate 15 years of busi-
ness.
“It was John Hagar’s lifelong dream to open a sports
venue—family restaurant,” said Kim Hagar who, along
with John, purchased the building in 1995. “The inside
was 99 percent gutted and redone. Over the years we’ve
had several additions from the Tiki Bar to the spacious
deck to the big screen plasma televisions, but the origi-
nal concept continues to attract patrons.”
Just 5 miles north of I-75, off exit 91, Bullfrogs Res-
taurant, 2225 Ortonville Road, offers a festive atmo-
sphere with entertainment every Friday and Saturday
night.
Whether out on the deck or in the dining room Bull-
frogs offers something for everyone. Whether it’s with
the whole family or just enjoying a date night with your
spouse or significant other, Bullfrogs is sure to please.
“Our Tiki Bar has become an area hot spot,” said
Kim. “It’s one of the biggest outdoor bars in Oakland
County. Even when the evenings get cool, guests can
warm up by lounging near their new outdoor fireplace
on the deck. Or chill out after a concert at DTE, which
is just a short drive away.
“We make an effort to have something for everyone
including a great menu with reasonable pricing.
“There’s never a bad seat in the house to watch your
favorite sporting event on our big screen TVs,” Kim
said.
Kim Hagar emphasizes that Bullfrogs continues to
support the community by sponsoring local charities,
giving donations and food to our local schools and or-
ganizations. Bullfrogs is a supporter of Devoted Friends
Animal Rescue.
If you’re looking for the best pizza after the show,
stop by Bullfrogs for one of their famous Mexican, Ar-
tichoke Spinach or The Nine Yards Pizza. If south of
the border fits your palate, check out the enormous wet
burrito enchiladas or the infamous humongous nachos
while sipping on the drink specials of the day.
“Maybe a bowl of our famous venison chicken chili
topped off with Frog Ears for dessert,” said Kim.
Bullfrogs late night fun continues with DJ, dancing
and the occasional live band on weekend nights, Texas
hold em poker tournaments Monday nights along with
‘Bike nights’ in the summer. Wednesday night is al-
ways family or kids night with Fumbelina the Clown
and kids eat free. Don’t forget ladies night every Thurs-
day where drinks are discounted for the ladies. Bull-
frogs also has Hoppy Hour specials 3-6 p.m. Monday-
Friday.
Visit their website bullfrogsbarandgrill.com or hop
in and join the e-mail club to get all the latest discounts
and daily hoppenings at the Frog.
Open Monday-Sunday, 11-2 a.m., and the kitchen is
open with the full menu available until 11p.m. Full ap-
petizer menu until 2 a.m. seven days a week. Reserva-
tions and carry-outs are always welcome by calling the
pad at 248-627-7755 or hopping in at 2225 Ortonville
Roadd Ortonville.

Celebrating 15 years on Lake Louise: Bullfrogs a local favorite
Great options. Great values.
That’s what the friendly
staff of Lane Car Company
and Lane Budget offers the
community as Ortonville’s
Hometown Dealer for the past
six years.
To better serve the commu-
nity, in 2012 Lane Car Com-
pany transformed the 20,000
square-foot former GM deal-
ership into a expansive sales
and service facility.
“We can now serve the pub-
lic better than ever and offer a
wide array of vehicles,” said
Jim Lane, co-owner of Lane
Car Company along with his
father Jim. “The growth and
commitment to excellence of
Lane Car Company has been
a win-win situation for us and
this community.”
Recently Lane Car Com-
pany has teamed up with
CaRite providing two great
methods to get financing for
your vehicle.

truly an honor to see so many
families take part in such a
great community event.”
“We love this community
and make this town our home
too,” said Jim. “There’s no
need to travel out of the area
to buy a car or for service
when it’s available right here
in town. It’s simple—our re-
turning business is what got us
here, it allowed us to grow and
that’s what will keep us here
in Ortonville.”

Exciting educational opportunities await your child in the
Brandon School District.
The district is a leader in academics with a staff that is
dedicated to providing students with new, exciting, innova-
tive ways to learn.
Brandon School District focuses on student success, rec-
ognizing that students are individuals and learn in their own
way and their own time. Teachers and support staff foster
that learning in a variety of ways, offering advanced place-
ment classes, online education, a spectacular Science, Tech-
nology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy,
robotics, broadcasting and more.
Every student receives the support they need to be suc-
cessful and right from the start, with Reading Recovery
offered in the K-3 buildings, as well as after-school tutoring
in various subjects at all grade levels, as well as summer
school.
Brandon is at the cutting edge with technology, with a
strong belief that all students must be technologically ad-
vanced to become citizens of the future. All buildings have
interactive electronic boards in every room. In all buildings,
iPads, laptop carts, interactive white boards and document
cameras are available for student and teacher use.
Brandon also offers a full array of athletic opportunities,
with sports including baseball, basketball, bowling,
cheerleading (6-time league champions in competitive
cheer), cross country, football, golf, hockey, pom pon, soc-
cer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball and wres-
tling.
Another source of pride for the district is their superior
visual art and music programs. Brandon excels in this area,
with vocal and instrumental music instruction available in all
grades and with an enormous track record of success in
competition. In vocal music, with 23 qualifications in
MSVMA State Solo and Ensemble, with four events
receving superior ratings and Division I and Division II rat-
ings for 19 events.
Marching band, concert and orchestra are all offered at
Brandon High School and The Brandon Middle School Band
also participates in state level competition.
BHS produces one musical and one dramatic play every
school year, to much acclaim and the delight of audiences,
with many other performances occurring throughout the
year.
The Brandon visual arts program is second to none, with
student artists encouraged to express their creativity under
the expert tutelage of teachers who go the extra mile, en-
tering their talented pupils into the prestigious Scholastic Art
Awards, and the Michigan Art Education Association’s
Young @ Art Show. Brandon students have received nu-
merous honors in these shows over the years, even going
on to national competition, with dedication and encourage-
ment from their teachers. In 2013, several students also
received scholarships in recognition of their incredible work.
“The caliber of our arts programs exceeds most dis-
tricts,” said Brandon Superintendent Lorrie McMahon.
“When talking with elementary parents, they told me that
continuing support of the arts is one of their top priorities, so
it has become a top priority for me and the school board.
When students are involved in such a highly acclaimed arts
program, they are better in their core academics, they are
more engaged in their school experience and their overall
education is vastly enhanced. We support the arts program
because we believe in our students and their success. We
will continue to support the arts program because it has
such a strong impact on our students’ success and future
success.”
Come to Brandon, where opportunity and a superior
education awaits.

“Genisys Credit Union prides
itself on giving back to the
community,” said Jackie Buchanan,
President/CEO.
In 2012, they sponsored a total of
275 community events, some of which
included the following events in
Oxford: Celebrate Oxford, Jr.
Leadership Oakland, Oxford Tree
Lighting, and Seymour Celebration.
Their employees logged a total of over
3,500 volunteer hours, and in 2013
they raised over $30,000 for OLHSA’s
(Oakland Livingston Human Service
Agency) Walk for Warmth.
“Community involvement is very
important to Genisys,” said
Buchanan.
Genisys also provides all the
traditional financial services
including home loans, auto loans,
small business lending, merchant
processing, and all other retail and
business financial services. Genisys
is one of the few financial institutions
left who offer a Debit Rewards card

more. We also have instant issuance

”Genisys Credit Union puts our
members first, as evidenced by our

financial needs,” Buchanan said.
“The number of members we have

“The biggest service we
offer as a community bank is
our customer relationships,”
said Grant Smith, President and
CEO of Clarkston State Bank
(CSB). “We take pride in
getting to know both our
consumer and business
customers and they
appreciate the interest we take
as well as the service we
provide.”
Unlike larger banks, CSB
customers have easy access
to staff at all levels of the
Bank, which results in quicker
resolution to problems and
faster turnaround on
decisions.
As Smith points out, when
you bank with CSB, you’re
“dealing with local people who
live and work in your
community and appreciate its
uniqueness.” If you want to
feel right at home, Clarkston
State Bank offers the services
you need with a personal
touch.
“We’re all in this together,”
CSB is financial engine
financial institutions.
Today, they are still open for business
and looking to grow. From opening a
checking or savings account to acquiring a
loan to help start up your small business,
CSB will aid you in managing your money
and reaching your financial goals.
For customers who like convenience, log
on to Clarkston State Bank’s on-line banking
at www.clarkstonstatebank.com or visit one
of their many ATMs to check your balance
or withdraw cash. Use CSB online to view
electronic statements, transfer your money
from one account to another, or download
features that will strengthen your ability to
manage your finances.
Businesses banking with Clarkston State
Bank utilize their cash management product
which allows the ability for the small business
owner to complete wire transfers, process
payroll, and collect payments from clients all
with the click of a mouse.
While CSB already has much to offer, we
continue to expand our products and
enhance our delivery systems, Smith said.
Clarkston State Bank has been visiting with
their business customers to find out how
CSB can better serve them. Seeking feedback
in such a way shows CSB’s interest in
offering the best service to their business
partners.
Find out more about Clarkston State Bank
by visiting any one of their four branches.
All the branch locations provide banking
Monday – Saturday. For more information,
find CSB on Facebook or contact one of their
convenient locations.
Clarkston State Bank President and CEO Grant Smith.
said Smith of the staff at CSB. “Just like many
of the local businesses, we faced challenges
over the past couple of years and chose to
stay true to our vision. Our goal was to stand
by the community and we have a genuine
appreciation for them standing by us.”
One reason for the family atmosphere
you’ll experience during a visit to one of
Clarkston State Bank’s branches is their
passionate employees. “It’s not just a job to
them,” Smith added.
The CSB staff not only loves coming to
work, but they are also proud of their
accomplishments, and it shows when people
walk through the door.
In addition, “we try our best to reinvest
back into the community,” said Smith.
Clarkston State Bank supplies box lunches
purchased from Rudy’s Market to officials
helping out at polling places on Election Day.
They also aid organizations like Christmas
in Action, Clarkston SCAMP, Lighthouse,
Clarkston Coalition for Youth, and all the
local Chamber of Commerce offices.
It’s CSB’s dedication to customers and
community that sets it apart.
Despite the challenging economic times,
Clarkston State Bank didn’t receive any
assistance from the government, yet they
are the only community bank left in North
Oakland County, Smith explained.
Recognizing their role as a financial engine
in the area, CSB continued lending and
emerged from the economic recession
smarter and more disciplined. In fact, CSB
was recently featured in Crain’s because their
resurrection serves as a model for other
