Daddy’s Little Girl A Nexis Short Ned quietly walks into the nursery after hearing her precious

coos on the baby monitor. He looks down into her sweet face and feels his heart fill with so much love it almost hurts. She smiles at him knowing her daddy is there. He picks her up out of her crib and kisses her cheek. “You’re supposed to be asleep my sweet angel.” Kristina laughs as she reaches out, her small chubby fist brushing against Ned’s cheek. “Would you like daddy to sing to you?” Kristina smiles as though she knew exactly what he had asked her. Ned leans down and kisses her forehead as he walks over to the rocking chair in the corner. He sits her up in the crook of his arm. He looks down into her sweet face once again and looks deep in her eyes; they’re Alexis’ eyes he thinks to himself. Kristina begins to fuss as though impatient because her daddy promised to sing to her. Soon Ned’s voice can be heard down the hallway filling the silent house with his song. You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold, You're daddy's little girl to have and hold. A precious gem is what you are, You're mommy's bright and shining star. You're the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree, You're the Easter bunny to mommy and me. You're sugar you're spice, you're everything nice, And you're daddy's little girl. Alexis quietly opens the front door to the Quartermaine mansion. She was supposed to meet Ned there later that

evening but she arrived early. She walked into the living room hoping not to run into any other members of the family. Ned had said that everyone was to be gone that night but she knew all too well how they seemed to always appear when you least expected it. She slowly made her way up the stairs wondering if he was upstairs with Kristina. As she reached the top of the stairs she heard him singing to their little girl. Tears welled up in her eyes as a sob caught in her throat. She walked over and stood outside the door continuing to listen to him singing to her. You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold, You're daddy's little girl to have and hold. A precious gem is what you are, You're mommy's bright and shining star. You're the treasure I cherish so sparkling and bright, You were touched by the holy and beautiful light. Like angels that sing a heavenly thing, And you're daddy's little girl. “You’ll always be my little girl, Kristina. I only wish your mother was here right now. I’d tell her that everything will be okay as long as we’re together, the three of us, the way it’s meant to be.” Another sob catches in Alexis’ throat as she lets his words sink in. She knows now what she has to do in order to give Kristina the life she never had, but always longed for as a child. No more games, no more plans, just the love of a mother and a father, the love of a family.
