Over 600 Local Officials Expected at Local Government Conference on March 28 The Tug Hill Commission is hosting its 24th annual North Country Local Government Conference on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Jefferson Community College in Watertown. To help keep the

registration fee affordable to local officials, GYMO Architecture, Engineering and Land Surveying, PC, and the Development Authority of the North Country will provide major financial support to the conference as platinum level sponsors. Drawing over 600 local officials from the counties of Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Oswego, and St. Lawrence, this one-day event will offer a opening remarks and a short keynote address from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. This year’s keynote speaker is Gerald Geist, the new Executive Director of the Association of Towns of New York. Mr. Geist will also be leading a workshop for local officials to discuss issues being addressed by the Association on a statewide basis beginning at 10:45 a.m. A total of 30 sessions throughout the day addressing issues for town and village boards, planning boards, zoning boards of appeal, highway departments, clerks, and assessors. Sessions cover topics from assessments training to zoning, economic development to municipal finance to good governance. This is the largest municipal training event in upstate New York.

The media is welcome throughout the day but encouraged to attend opening remarks at 8:30 a.m.
