Speakers Biography Magdalena Salazar-Palma was born in Granada, Spain. She received the MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineer from Polytechnic University of Madrid (PUM), Spain, where she has been Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the Department of Signals, Systems and Radiocommunications. Since 2004 she is with the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, Charles the Third University of Madrid (C3UM), Spain, where she is Full Professor, co-director of the Radiofrequency Research Group and has served for three years as Head of the Department. She has been member of numerous University Committees, both at PUM and C3UM.

IEEE AP Society's Expert Lecture ON Analytical Synthesis of Multiband Filters through Frequency Transformation - Microstrip Implementation"
Magdalena Salazar-Palma Abstract : A method for the design of band-pass filters with multiple pass bands is presented. The key point of this method is a frequency map between single-band resonators and multiple band networks formed by those resonators with additional resonators coupled to them. The mapping problem is a nonlinear one and the mathematical treatment, based on mapping the cut-off frequencies, is not simple. However, the resulting method is quite straightforward: first, synthesize a single-band equivalent filter; then, couple to each resonator a set of as many resonators as pass bands minus one, being the sets identical between them. The method is illustrated by designing microstrip prototypes with one to three bands. They consist of conventional parallel-coupled half-wavelength resonator filters with additional hairpin or meandered resonators.

She has developed her research in a number of areas of electromagnetic field theory; advanced computational and numerical methods for microwave and millimeter wave passive components and antennas analysis and design; advanced network and filter theory and design; antenna arrays design and smart antennas; use of novel materials and metamaterials for the implementation of devices and antennas with improved performance (multiband, miniaturization, and so on) for the new generation of communication systems; design, simulation, optimization, implementation, and measurement of microwave circuits both in waveguide and integrated (hybrid and monolithic) technologies; millimeter, submillimeter and THz frequency bands technologies; and history of telecommunications.

published by international editorial companies, 13 contributions for academic books and notes, 83 papers in scientific journals, 296 papers in international conferences, symposiums, and workshops, 75 papers in national conferences and 88 project reports, short course notes, and other publications. She has coauthored 2 European and USA patents which have been extended to other countries and several software packages for the analysis and design of microwave and millimeter wave passive components, antennas and antenna arrays, as well as computer aided design (CAD) of advanced filters and multiplexers for space applications which are been used by multinational companies and organizations. She has lectured in more than 50 short courses, some of them in the frame of Programs of the European Community and others in conjunction with IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) International AP-S (Antennas and Propagation Society) Symposium and IEEE MTT-S (Microwave Theory and Techniques Society) Symposium and others IEEE Symposia. Since 1989, she has served IEEE under different volunteer positions: President of IEEE Spain Section, and other activities of Spain section, member of IEEE AP-S Administrative Committee. In December 2009 she was elected 2011 President of IEEE AP-S Society, acting as Vice President during 2010, serving as President and as member of IEEE Technical Activities Board during 2011. Currently she is IEEE AP-S Past President, member of IEEE AP-S Administrative Committee, chairperson of IEEE AP-S Nominations Committee, member of IEEE AP-S Transnational Committee, member of IEEE AP-S Distinguished Lecturer Program Committee and member of the IEEE Service Awards Committee.
