Dhikr: Mantra Yoga in Islam

While all words carry something, there are actually two categories of words: words of meaning and words of power. The word "fish" carries the image, memory and thought of a scaly, water-breathing vertebrate. Fish, then, is a word that conveys meaning. As a word of meaning, it carries no inherent power save whatever power the listener associates with it. If, for example, a person saw his grandfather choke to death while eating fish, the word "fish" might, by association, evoke emotions having to do with death. The word "Aum" (Om, Aung, Aungkh) has no meaning. It conveys power and is therefore called a word of power. Words of power can stimulate reactions in the mind, the subtle body and even in the physical environment. In Sanskrit words of power are called mantras. They are called Hekau in ancient Egyptian. For a word of power to build up enough momentum to generate a result it has to be chanted over and over until the chanter enters a state of trance (the "garden" of the Quran). That repetition of a mantra is, in Sanskrit, called "joppa." In Arabic it's called "dhikr."

In some scriptures, Joppa is veiled in symbolic language. In the Book of Acts Peter goes into the town of Joppa, goes up on a roof (higher states of mind) and enters a trance in which he sees the heavens open. Noah's son Japheth also symbolizes Joppa. In the Nation of Islam esoteric teachings, Joppa is symbolized by the nations Japan in which the Mothership was assembled. Joppa (chanted repetition) of a mantra can cause one to remember forgotten information of this life or former lives. So dhikr has often been translated "remember." Remembrance, however, is an effect of dhikr, not dhikr itself. Egyptian Islam (i.e. Hetep) is far more advanced than Arabian Islam, though all of the "revealed religions" are Islam. They all mean "peace" and refer to a lifestyle, methodology and mentality that fosters unshakeable inner peace, a peace that is undisturbed by "hang-ups, letdowns, bad breaks and setbacks" (to quote Marvin Gaye). This true peace is only accomplished by repeatedly taking the consciousness to the highest plane where the mental energy is undisturbed, still and at rest. That consciousness plane is called Samadhi (yoga), Nu (Kamitic), Amen (Kamitic), Nirvana (Buddhism), Juju (African), Salaam (Arabian) and Shalom (Jewish). The true "religion" of the Jews is not Judaism (which is only a tribal idea); it is Shalom (unshakeable inner peace). Islam is a way of life that is intended to result in Salaam (unshakeable Inner peace). The actual religion of the people of the Indus Valley was called something like Santana (excuse my poor memory of Sanskrit words) which means "peace." Just as mathematics includes all branches and levels from simple arithmetic to quantam physics, so does "Islam" (peace) include the spiritual systems of India, China, Nigeria, Egypt, America, et al. Using the language of Arabic, all of them are Islam. Using the English language, all of them are Peace. Using Kamitic, they are all Hetep. There are elementary and advanced yogas. Jnana yoga is considered to be far more advanced than, say, hatha yoga. Well, there are elementary and advanced Islams. Kamitic Hetep Islam is far more developed and advanced than the Islam of the Arabs. The Quran teaches that Allah places no burden on a soul that's beyond its scope. As presently understood, Christianity, Judaism and Islam are kindergarten spiritual systems and that's why even the so-called top scholars teach, speak and function at just about a Sunday School level. There are practicing Muslims who literally believe that Satan runs between people in a prayer line if their toes are not physically touching one another. Some literally believe that Satan is chained somewhere in hell during Ramadan and therefore cannot get out to torment true believers. Some believe that Allah -- who as As-Sami' hears all things -- simply won't hear a person's prayer if he entered the mosque with his left foot first. Some believe that a Muslim is not even a

Muslim if he doesn't wear a beard. There are beliefs just as absurd in the other western religions -- at least in the exoteric, outer court. When people learn that their religious teachings are just symbols for deeper knowledge, they can start to enter the inner courts and then they will find a true spiritual system that is as deep as they are ready to delve. And they will find no difference in the inner significant between the various so-called faiths. In fact, they will find that they compliment one another as some emphasize certain things more than others, but all contain the truth. The exoteric level of religion is the greatest "weapon of mass destruction" that presently threatens the world. It is indeed "the opiate of the masses." In Kamitic (ancient Egyptian) Islam one who has mastered the science of using hekau (mantras) is called "maa kheru" or "true of speech." The Arabic equivalent is assaddiyq ("truthful one"). In the Egyptian spiritual system, a person is tested in a ritual called the weighing of the words. This tests and determines whether or not a person is really maa kheru, i.e., whether his or her hekau have the power to affect the physical world. In the Egyptian system, consistent heka power can only be exhibited if one has lived Maat (divine law). The idea of words having "weight," i.e., substance, is in the Quranic verse that says "soon We will send down to you a weighty word." Mantras are comprised of letters. Each letter is like a mini-mantra. Each chakra has certain letters (called petal mantras) and colors that activate, modify and channel the power of the chakra. The chakra itself transmits planetary energy. The petal letter T (chanted Tam), for example, promotes healing and is reinforced by the color yellow. It is a letter of the heart chakra. Petal letters are called kalimaat in the Quran. The Quranic words for words of power are qawl, kalimaat and haqqa. Haqqa is an Arabicized version of the Egyptian heka (i.e., mantra). In the Quranic ayats dhikr used to represent both the mantra itself and the process of joppa although, technically, dhikr is the process of repeated chanting of a mantra.

The word kalimaat means "word," but it more specifically means "letter." The Arabic word kalimaat is actually a fusion of the names of two very important and powerful goddesses, Kali and Maat. Kali is the Dravidian equivalent of Sekert and therefore she rules the 3rd Tree of Life sphere where words of power are stored and pure shakti force. Maat is the goddess of law, righteousness, kindness and sharing. So one has to be righteous, live in accord with law and be kind and sharing in order to fully utilize the hekau as embodied in the 50 "little mothers" or sound units of power. These sound units of power are represented by the 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, 50 oarsmen of the boats of Osiris and Ra, and the 50 great names of the Sumerian pantheon. In Nation of Islam mythology they are symbolized by the "black god" Father Shabazz taking his family to live in Africa '50 thousand years ago."

The Canaanite/Hebrew system only has 22 letters (sound units of power) which accord with the 22 amino acids that make up life in the physical realm. the Arabic system has 29 letters which represent the 29 days of the lunar month. The Quran provides 29 Surahs which begin with Mystic Letters that are mantras comprised of 14 of the 29 Arabic letters. The Nation of Islam symbolizes the 29 letters (sound units of power) in its Student enrolment which asks: "How much useful land is used everyday by the total population of the planet earth?" Answer: "The useful land is used everyday by the total population of the planet earth is 29 million square miles." But in sheer terms of power it can be easily seen that the Canaanite/Hebrew and Arabic systems lack the flexibility of the Sanskrit/Dravidian system. Repeating chanting (dhikr/joppa) of a word of power awakens the god faculty represented by the mantra. Eventually, that sound power feeds the faculty such that the personality of the chanter begins to align itself with the deity/faculty. Ultimately, the person's mind and abilities transform into those of the deity and the person -- by chanting and living truth -- becomes an embodiment, shrine, messenger or avatar of that aspect of deity. In fact, the challenges we face in life are really for the purpose of inspiring us to awaken the faculty ("deity") inside ourselves that will help us to not only meet the challenge but realize that aspect of divinity in our lives.

Let us posit that a man is lonely, that "it is not good for the man to be alone" and decides that he wants a mate. There are many things the poor fellow can do. He can use the Quranic spell: "Our Lord grant unto us wives and offspring who are a comfort to our eyes and give us the grace to be imams for the righteous." (By the way fellas, that works. I see not reason why it wouldn't work just as well for the honeys who want a husband.) Or the person could dhikr "Al-Wadood" (the Lover) and that chanting could turn him into an expression of Al-Wadood and by being more loving will naturally attract a woman who wants to give and receive love. Or even better, he could chant the heka of Het-Heru, the goddess of love. By chanting "Vam Klim Sauh" in a state of trance the person would begin to evoke and manifest the characteristics of Het-Heru. He would wear the colour green and use essential oils such as cinnamon to call up the Venusian aspect of his Ra/Salaat force.

Eventually he'd become a male version of Het-Heru and since love is a natural property of the goddess, he would easily attract the right love interest or marriage partner to him. Of course, for full success he'd have to live truth (Maat) and obey the divine laws, especially those of Het-Heru. In other words, he'd have to be joyful, optimistic, loving, caring, sociable, ready to have a good time, etc. At certain points in his meditations or dreams he might get guidance (wahy or inspiration) for the goddess that's downloaded from the higher regions of his own subconscious. And, to show that he'd succeeded in "breaking on through to the other side" he'd get certain evidentiary feedback from the goddess to let him know that she was on the case. For example, since Het-Heru's day of the week is Friday, he might meet a special lady wearing green on a Friday. Such things are signs (ayats) that the operation is underway and will be successful. Ideally, after he succeeds in getting the wife of God's choice for him (as opposed to the one of his finite mind's and ego's choice) he would then offer Het-Heru type assistance to others in whatever way is proper for him. That would be his offering to the goddess. He'd become an avatar of Het-Heru.

This dhikr work would not make him feminine, but it would create greater yin/yank balance in his life. There are also Tree of Life God names which control carious spheres of the Tree and areas of life. Yod Heh Vaw Heh Saba-oth is the God name of the 7th sphere of the Tree of Live (Venus and Het-Heru). Members of all religions would do well to learn to properly use the god names to make miracles happen in their lives. The God names can be chanted as parts of rituals (such as the Middle Pillar and Circulation of Light) to attract or banish things, conditions or characteristics. As the Quran says, "The most beautiful names belong to Allah" (3:180). Adam (Quran 2:31) was taught "all the names" and by the correct usage of those names the angels had to prostrate themselves to Adam. What this means is that the knowledge of all the hekau, mantras, kalimaat/letters and God names are stored in the highest regions of our consciousness and identity called the atman, Atem or Adam. Any person can learn to use these god names and by using them, angels have no choice but to do our bidding (as long as our will is not in contradiction to the will of God). Recite that which has been revealed to you of the book and raise up the salaat. Surely salaat keeps (one) away from indecency and evil; and certainly the dhikr Allah is greater. And Allah knows what you do. -- Quran 29:45 Most translators translate the above "certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest (force)." Not bad, but not entirely accurate. "Akbar" means "greater." Allahu akbar means "God is greater," not "God is the greatest." God is larger, more August, more magnificent, bigger and greater than... anything! Whatever we come up, God is greater than that, She's larger and bigger and more lovely and more beautiful than that. Allah akbar. What the above is saying is that dhikr (mantra yoga) is greater than salaat (kundalini yoga). Since I'm and energy dude myself and get more results from energy work (kundalini) than from chanting I would not say that, but I yield to the superior knowledge of the writer of the Quran. At the highest levels of dhikr, the mantras house and conduct pure shakti (energy) so there isn't really a major difference

between kundalini (salaat) and dhikr (mantra chanting). Kundalini begins in the 10th sphere of the Tree of Life (Geb/Malkuth. This is the nearly physical energy. But in the higher levels of kundalini cultivation, it becomes a 3rd sphere (Sekert/Binah) expression. Mantra yoga is initially a 9th sphere (Isis/Yesod) activity but it also becomes a 3rd sphere activity when the chanter is able to still all thought and "dies to the world." So both salaat and dhikr find their fulfilment in the 3rd sphere. It is during a state of trance that dhikrs have power. Most Islamic flags have a Moon and a star on them. The Moon symbolizes the state of trance necessary to bring about a spiritual rebirth.
