at St. Lukes and Roosevelt Hospitals is to help you stay healthy by keeping you informed of on-going screenings, seminars and health events in the community. We hope that you can take advantage of the events listed in this calendar.

Sound the Alert Diabetes Awareness Day

According to the National Institutes of Health, 25.8 million Americans have diabetes. Of these, 7 million do not know they have the disease. Since 1958, the number of people diagnosed with diabetes has risen from 1.5 million to 18.8 million in 2010, an increase of epidemic proportions. St. Lukes and Roosevelt Hospitals wants to help you get the facts. Learn about diabetes, the signs, symptoms and treatment. Screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol will also be offered. Each participant who gets screened will receive an individual consultation with a health care professional to discuss the screening results. Healthy light refreshments will be served. One of the goals of having a health screening and education program for men is to foster an environment where men can speak freely about issues that directly affect them. Are you always thirsty? Are you urinating more frequently than usual? These could be signs of diabetes or other conditions. Get checked. Join us for an afternoon of biometric screenings. A biometric screening is a short health examination that determines your risk level for certain diseases and medical conditions. St. Lukes and Roosevelt Hospitals will provide screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Attention men 40 years of age and older. Have you had your prostate cancer screening this year? St. Lukes and Roosevelt Hospitals will provide free prostate cancer screenings to help you stay on top of your health. While youre getting your prostate checked, we will also offer screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Referrals for colonoscopies are given to those aged 50 and older.

In the age of Columbine and Newtown, this panel discussion explores collaborative efforts among various disciplines to address the mental health needs of children, adolescents and their families. Join us.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to your limbs. When you develop PAD, your extremities usually your legsdont receive enough blood flow to keep up with the demand. This causes symptoms, most notably leg pain when walking. If you are experiencing leg pain or other discomfort in your legs, stop by to get screened for PAD. Registration is required. Please call 212.722.1441 to learn more and to RSVP.

There will be other types of health screenings available from various health organizations. Information on the different programs and services in the Harlem community will also be available.
