Southampton Area Group
Notes from first meeting, Wed 27th March 2013 There were 7 (all male) attendees at the meeting. The general mood was very supportive and positive. Firstly it was agreed that it is actually worth continuing with a group, to set meeting dates monthly initially and to alternate the day of the week - Wed & Thu. City College is a good venue for everyone and 7pm is a good time. Amongst other things, it was decided that we would like to be involved in –
Promoting the benefits of a career in Early Years to men/boys. We discussed
opportunities to work with schools, colleges and universities and supporting careers events.
Supporting one another through the set up and maintenance of a local net-
work, the discussion of any work related issues and challenges.
Encouraging and supporting individuals and settings though mentoring. Working to positively influence general opinions on the benefits of men work-
ing in Early Years.
Developing / collecting publicity materials – personal stories etc.
We discussed the possibility of producing a promotional DVD showcasing male workers’ positive personal stories. We talked about the possibilities of using social media – facebook, twitter and/ or a website to promote activities.
Next Meeting: 7pm Thursday 25th April 2013 at City College, Chapel Road, Southampton SO14 5GL
