I attend Drake University where I am currently obtaining a Bachelors of Science in Education degree and will be graduating May 2013. I will be certified in special education, English and in teaching English as a second language. Over the past four years I have completed several placements in a variety of classrooms within the Des Moines School District. I have had the opportunity to tutor several English language learners by teaching language acquisition as well as helping the students adapt to American culture. I have recently completed my first student teaching placement in a ninth grade English classroom and am currently at my second placement in a Secondary Special Education classroom in Canada.

I am a driven and motivated person. I have remained on the honor roll and Deans list throughout my undergraduate career while competing on scholarship in Division I athletics in track and field. Throughout my four years at Drake University I have had the opportunity to volunteer with many organizations, specifically working for the Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Club. I have also had the pleasure of being apart of the Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity, which provided me with numerous opportunities for philanthropic and social activities within the community. Some athletic accomplishments I have had include: 2006 Belleville Athlete of the Year (Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award) OFSAA Track and Field Gold Medalist in the 400m OFSAA Track and Field gold medalist in the 800m Provincial gold medalist in Womens Hockey Canadian Legion Track and Field gold medalist in the 800m Canadian Legion Track and Field silver medalist in the 400m
