D300102 Laboratory Load Calculation Criteria

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 OVERVIEW A. This section supplements Design Guideline Element D3001 with specific requirements for patient treatment occupancies that the A/E must incorporate when calculating HVAC cooling and heating loads. B. Load calculations must be performed in accordance with the latest ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals. C. Refer to Design Guideline Element D3001 for general design criteria related to outdoor design conditions, internal loads, occupant density, occupant heat rejection, building envelope, and system zoning.

PART 2 - DESIGN CRITERIA
2.01 INDOOR DESIGN CONDITIONS A. The following table applies to Laboratory spaces that are in addition to office spaces, which are listed in Design Guideline Element D3001.

B. It is recognized that occasional excursions beyond the above design conditions will occur due to a variety of factors, but such excursions should not prevent generally intended function of the space. C. Humidification for control shall be provided for applications where indicated. Size the steam delivering capacity of the humidifier to maintain the room at mean 45 percent relative humidity, at minimum design air temperature of 72 degrees F during winter minimum outside air temperature conditions. Size the capacity to maintain relative humidity in the space at mean 45 percent at a maximum condition of 74 degrees F. The University of Texas M. D. Design Guideline Element D304202 Laboratory Exhaust Ventilation provides air change rates for different type of laboratory spaces and support rooms. use heat gain rates for occupants listed in ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals. E. each chiller must have sufficient capacity to maintain a controlled temperature environment for rooms or support spaces identified by Owner’s research staff as critical to research operations. unless directed otherwise by Owner during the Schematic Design phase: 1. it should be recognized that re-heat energy requirements can result in lower cooling operation setpoints being less costly to operate than higher setpoints. Functional use of the space. Size each chiller at less then 100 percent of total load capacity. 2. tissue culture rooms and chemical fume hood rooms will require separation of duct distribution systems or air handling systems to prevent the possibility of cross contamination from one controlled space to another. Coordinate environmental temperature limits and humidity requirements for special equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. 2. Chapter 30.05 VENTILATION LOADS A. Confirm the number of occupants with the Facility Program or Pre-Design Report as space programming is finalized. 2. 2. When calculating HVAC system loads for selecting airside equipment.
