It was formed to promote the Tasar (silk) culture, Handloom, Handicraft, and to revive the unique cultural expressions of the state and its people. Sensing the potential of silk, handloom and handicraft, Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand, took many steps for the development of this sector. In the year 2006, Jharcraft was started as an organisation to create new opportunities in rural areas with an objective to change lives throughout the state. In the first year, the organisation was engaged in organising production units of various categories and informal marketing of the merchandise. In September 2007 Jharcraft opened its first outlet in Ranchi, the capital city of the state and has now its outlets in New Delhi and Bangalore. The main objective of Jharcraft is to provide a marketing space for the merchandise manufactured by the local artisans, SHG’s (Self Help Groups), & NGO’s (Non-Government Organisation). The organisation also provides all
