Jehovah God

Jesus Christ

Genesis 2:4 4 These are the generations of the heavens and
of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah*
God made earth and heaven. A S

Immanuel This identity of Jesus Christ as Immanuel did not
mean he was the incarnation of God, ‘God in the flesh,’ which
proponents of the Trinity teaching claim is implied by the
meaning of Immanuel, namely, “With Us Is God.” It was a
common practice among Jews to embody the word “God,”
even “Jehovah,” in Hebrew names. It-1* p. 1188

* “Jehovah.” Heb., (YHWH, here vowel-pointed as Yehwah´), meaning “He
Causes to Become” (from Heb., [hawah´, “to become”]); LXXA(Gr.), Kyros;
Syr., Marya´; Lat., Dominus. The first occurrence of God’s distinctive
personal name, (YHWH); these four Heb. letters are referred to as the
Tetragrammaton. The divine name identifies Jehovah as the Purposer. Only
the true God could rightly and authentically bear this name. Rbi8

Exodus 3:15 Yes, tell them, `Jehovah, the God of your
ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has sent me to you.'
(This is my eternal name, to be used throughout all
generations.) Living Bible
(Revised Standard Version Catholic Ed) “The word Lord when spelled with
capital letters stands for the divine name YHWH, which here is connected
with the verb hayah, to be.”

The action expressed in Joh 8:58 started “before Abraham came into
existence” and is still in progress. In such situation εἰμί (ei·mi´), which is the
first-person singular present indicative, is properly translated by the perfect
indicative. Examples of the same syntax are found in Lu 2:48; 13:7; 15:29;
Joh 5:6; 14:9; 15:27; Ac 15:21; 2Co 12:19; 1Jo 3:8.
Concerning this construction, A Grammar of the Idiom of the New
Testament, by G. B. Winer, seventh edition, Andover, 1897, p. 267, says:
“Sometimes the Present includes also a past tense (Mdv. 108), viz. when the
verb expresses a state which commenced at an earlier period but still
continues,—a state in its duration; as, Jno. xv. 27 ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐστέ

John 7:16 16 Jesus, in turn, answered them and said:
“What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him that sent me.

Isaiah 55:10-11 For just as the pouring rain descends, and
the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place,
unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it
produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower
and bread to the eater, so my word that goes forth from
my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without
results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted,
and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it.

John 5:18-19 On this account, indeed, the Jews began
seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he
breaking the Sabbath but he was also calling God his own
Father, making himself equal to God. Therefore, in answer,
Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to you, The
Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only
what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that
One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
John 5:30 I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative*;
(ftn: Or, “thing original with me.”)

John 8:28 Therefore Jesus said: “When once you have lifted
up the Son of man, then you will know that I am [he], and that
I do nothing of my own initiative; but just as the Father
taught me I speak these things.
John 14:9, 10 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you
disciples so long, and yet you, Philip, have not recognized
me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can
you say, `Let us see the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I
am in union with the Father and that the Father is in union
with me? I am not saying these things on my own
authority, but the Father who always remains in union with
me is doing these things Himself. – William’s New Testament
John 16:13 However, when that one arrives, the spirit of the
truth (Holy Spirit), he will guide you into all the truth, for he
will not speak of his own impulse, but what things he
hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things
coming.

*** it-1 p. 639 Divine ***
A consideration of the context of Colossians 2:9 clearly
shows that having “divinity,” or “divine nature,” does not make
Christ the same as God the Almighty. In the preceding
chapter, Paul says: “God saw good for all fullness to dwell in
him.” (Col 1:19) Thus, all fullness dwells in Christ because it
“pleased the Father” (KJ, Dy), because it was “by God’s own
choice.” (NE) So the fullness of “divinity” that dwells in Christ
is his as a result of a decision made by the Father. Further
showing that having such “fullness” does not make Christ the
same person as Almighty God is the fact that Paul later

speaks of Christ as being “seated at the right hand of God.”—
