SELAMAT PAGI
13 April 2013
The month of April is annually designated as Rotary's Magazine Month, an occassion to recognize and promote the reading and use of the official RI magazine, The ROTARIAN and the regional magazines, which make up the Rotary World Press. The ROTARIAN has been around since 1911 as the medium to communicate with Rotarians and to advance the program and Object of Rotary. The primary goal of the magazine is to support and promote key programs of Rotary. The magazine also disseminates information about the annual theme and the philosophy of the RI president, major meetings and the emphasis of the official 'months' on the Rotary calendar. The ROTARIAN provides a forum in which both Rotary related and general interest topics may be explored. The magazine serves as an excellent source of information and ideas for programs at Rotary club meetings and district conferences. Many articles promote international fellowship, goodwill and understanding. Regular readers usually have superior knowledge of the activities of Rotary and understand how each Rotarian may be more fully involved in the four Avenues of Service around the world. Although each regional publication has its own unique style and content, they all provide Rotarians with up-to-date information and good reading in April and all through the year.
So, what does Super Heros do? Well, just about what we have known them for doing. They do good deeds, serve humanity, protect people and loved ones, help the poor and needy, fight every obstacle, fail but never give up, goes away in silent contemplation, returns with solutions and courage, accomplished their objectives, succeeds and become a Hero amongst those who depend on them. A little patience and thought in making choices, a positive attitude, some faith, and a whole lot of tolerance. Hold these together using sound morals, good values, and sincere and consistent attempts to make yourself a better person, shall make you nothing short of a Super Hero. In other words, they are generous and charitable in nature, helpful and giving in deeds, protective of their loved ones and others, brave enough to be willing to face every obstacle in life, and develop solutions to get over them, be willing to fail and learn from their experiences, always keep moving forward in life, think, indulge in some self-analysis, make some positive changes in self, change attitudes and muster courage and persevere until they win. Try being a Super Hero for just one single moment every day. It may become a habit. That habit may inspire another. That inspiration may become contagious and Voila! You have single-handedly influenced the world around you by that 1 single moment by being a Super Hero! You can do small great things and be a hero at work, become a hero for your spouse, for your children, for your siblings, for yourself. Try doing one thing every day that is generous, brave, selfless, caring or simply humble. Any of these will only add just another positive moment to your life. No, it doesnt take much. And once done, make it a habit and collect such several Super Hero moments and make your life worthwhile. Sponsor a child, a family, be charitable, volunteer at a local shelter for those in need, be compassionate, tolerant, loving, generous, selfless and forgiving. ... Engage Rotary, Change Lives - 2013-14 RI theme
RI President-elect Ron Burton will ask Rotarians to Engage Rotary, Change Lives in 2013-14. If we really want to take Rotary service forward, then we must make sure that every single Rotarian has the same feeling about Rotary that each one of us here has today, Burton said. We need to make sure that every Rotarian has a meaningful role to play, that theyre all making a contribution, and that their contribution is valued. It takes everything that is wonderful about Rotary and raises it to a new level by encouraging bigger, more sustainable projects while providing increased flexibility for local projects, both of which address the needs of the community being served, he said. Burton applied that lesson also to membership development, which he insisted is the responsibility of every Rotarian. The job doesnt end when a new member joins: Its not done until that new member is engaged in Rotary, inspired by Rotary, and uses the power of Rotary service to change lives.
