Stein Club 2013 Special Election Guide
Voting Locations
There has been some confusion about voting locations on Election Day. The D.C. Board of Election has confirmed that all 143 precincts will be open on Election Day for voting. Absentee ballots must be requested by Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The Early Voting location is at One Judiciary Square (441 Fourth St. NW) and is open from Monday, April 8th through Saturday, April 20th from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, except on Sunday, April 14th and Tuesday, April 16th. Vote “Yes” on 8 to Free DC’s Budget
At the March 2013 Membership Meeting, the Stein Club unanimously endorsed Referendum 8 to amend the District of Columbia Home Rule Act. Our city’s budget should be determined by our own elected officials, and not legislated to us by politicans who don’t claim this city as their home. DC’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities have a right to determine how our own tax dollars are used to support our communities. Vote “Yes” on Home Rule Charter Amendment 8 to send Congress a strong message that DC residents should be free from their meddling on local issues. At-Large City Council Election
The Gertrude Stein Club requires candidates to achieve a supermajority (60%) vote of support from members in order to be endorsed in an election. This year, while the majority of the candidates demonstrated strong knowledge and support of LGBT issues, no candidate reached the 60% threshold. As a result, the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club did not endorse any candidate for the At-Large City Council seat. For transparency around the range of support candidates received from Stein members, we have included the final Endorsement Forum vote tallies below.
