Chronicinhalationexposurescanresultinchangesinpulmonaryfunction,bronchitis,skin inflammation,decayanderosionofdentalenamel,bleedingfromthenoseandgums, ulcerationofthemucousmembranesofthenoseandmouth,andconjunctivitis(Salocksand Kaley2004).Sometimesthesesymptomsmaybedelayedbymorethanadayand,inmany cases,canleadtopermanentdamagesuchasperforationofthegastrointestinaltractaswellas oculareffects.
